I love the boondockers club idea and support it wholeheartedly. We're located in the southeast. not sure if we can make the rally in WV, but would try. How to stay informed on the developments?

Airstreaming with the stars.

If you like to boondock under dark skies, consider attending the premiere star party in “Wild and Wonderful West Virginia.”
Bring your binoculars or telescope if you have one. If not, no problem, you can look through various telescopes. During the day you can tour our National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and see how your tax dollars are spent on scientific explorations. If you got nothing better to do between June 28th and July 2nd, then consider this event in Green Bank, WV.

Check out their website: Green Bank Star Quest 8 - June 29th - July 2nd, 2011

That sounds awesome. Maybe we can hold a satellite (get it? satellite...) event at the Birthday Bash. It is June 30- July 5 in Slippery Rock Pa.

We are going remote!

All,

In an effort to give you the most remote, dark sky watching night, views you will not believe, etc.. etc.. etc... we have decided to move a little south to a place called "Massies Mill, Virginia".

massies mill virginia - Google Maps

Right up the road is the Blue Ridge Parkway, Crabtree Falls, Wintergreen Ski/Golf Resort and the home of Trailer Buff. Located in the county of Nelson (has only "one" traffic light) Massies Mill has a very special place in my wifes and daughters heart. Being 8th and 9th generation "Massies" my wife and daughter love this place and will take any and every chance to get time there. We will be on private property and will have access to water and one 15amp outlet to keep the batts warm. We will be staying right on the "Tye River" that is a stocked trout stream.

The place will be about 1 mile west of the town of Massies Mill on Rt. 56. If you let me know you are planning to attend, I'll send you a google map link to the location.

Let me know if this works for everyone.

This is the kind of place old "Wally" would have stopped and ask, "Can I spend the night here?" He would be proud of us!

Haven't been right there, but I know that area- -just south of Nellysford, VA.
Toured the "Trailer Buff" Airstream restoration shop a number of years ago. He had dozens of old Airstreams out back. Don't know if they're still in business. I would guess the G.W. Nat'l Forest area would be good for boondocking and dark skies.
Worth serious consideration.

Obie,

The way I understood the post from Rodney, he was looking for something May 13-15. Rodney, correct me if I'm wrong.

Has any one heard anything from Dave and Martha. Last rally I saw them at was Burlington. I stopped by their business shortly after that, but haven't seen or heard of them since

Really would like to but I really am committed (as apposed to being committed)
to doing some other things in that time frame.

Rick,

No worries. At least we get to see your smiling face on the Rt. 11 Caravan from Bristol, TN to 1000 Island, NY in June. I'll be getting the info out to those on the list so far this weekend (I hope). FYI, I already have all the campgrounds spots reserved along the route with the help of Hunt Jones. See you in Bristol June 17th.
