Delfest - Cumberland, MD
For those in the NorthEast...Dan mentioned earlier...there is a great festival in Cumberland, MD 5/23-26. There is a great lineup:
The Del McCoury Band
Trey Anastasio Band (2 sets)
Old Crow Medicine Show, Yonder Mountain String Band
The Masters of Bluegrass, Trampled By Turtles, Carolina Chocolate Drops
The Travelin’ McCourys, The Infamous Stringdusters, Greensky Bluegrass
and many more!
You can check it out at delfest.com. In addition to the performances there will be seminars and competitions (for you Airstream pickers). Camping is also available.

I went to Delfest last year, and it was one of the best festivals I have ever been to. Unfortunately, I can't go this year as our best friends' daughter is getting married that weekend.
Camping facilities were great by my standards- no hookups, but close to the action (but not too close). Cumberland is a nice place to spend some time in. I highly recommend this festival.

Glad that you went to Palatka and enjoyed it. Maybe next year for me.
I will be headed to the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL March 21-24 for the Suwannee Springfest. The website is Suwannee Springfest. The lineup includes:
Old Crow Medicine Show, Jerry Douglas, Peter Rowan, Leftover Salmon, Keller and the Keels, Donna the Buffalo, Travlin McCourys, Darol Anger, Scythian, Mike Marshall and lots of others.
I hope that other Airstreamers will be there.
Dan

Musicians Against Childhood Cancer (M.A.C.C.) Blue Grass Fest
We did the ”Musicians Against Childhood Cancer (M.A.C.C.) Blue Grass Fest” last year in our SOB and really had a good time there.
Camping starts on Sunday, musicians play Wednesday through Saturday, and check out was the following Sunday.
This gave us Sunday through Tuesday to explore the surrounding area before the music started.
We toured the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Pickerington, OH.
Traveled down to Logan, OH to Hocking Hills State Park where we hiked to Old man’s cave, Rock House, and Ash cave.
Here’s the link for you.

One of the premier music festivals on the east coast begins Thursday, April 25 thru Sunday, April 28. It is Merlefest, www.merlefest.org. I will be going and will be camped at Bandits Roost campground on the Lake. I went last year and the festival was incredible. I camped at the North Wilkesboro Volunteer Firemans Campground. It actually worked out fine, kind of pricey for no hookups, but it did include a shuttle service. I only used it once. Anyhow I will be in site 73. It is real cheap, $11/day, since I am over 62. I think it includes elect which I don't really need.
It is real close to Merlefest, less than 5 miles I believe. It is at a real Army Core of Engineers campground on a lake. Stop on by any morning if you can.

I just returned from Merlefest and had a great time. As usual, I only had heard of about 20% of the bands that played there and came away with some new favorites that I had never heard of before. They were the Black Lillies from Knoxville, Delta Rae from Durham, the Greencards from Austin, Tx and Enter the Haggis from Toronto, Ontario.
I camped at Bandits Roost Campground on Kerr Reservoir. It is an Army Corps of Engineers campground and is one of the best I have ever stayed at. I give it a 10/10 and only 5 miles from Merlefest.
I stumbled across an interesting custom Airstream. They sell and service Fender Guitars. This Airstream was custom made at the Factory. Here are some exterior photos.

It stays on the road a lot, but it resides in Texas, so it has two air conditioners.
It has an interesting set of steps. They work well and save on injuries as well as law suits. I suspect they store them in the Airstream when they are traveling.

Wow... what a toy store! What a job! Like the riser stair steps...
Good to see that the musicians that accompany a drummer, place such an emphasis on their instruments... :

Montana Old Time Fiddlers Picnic
I've seen this posted in the VAC and our Montana unit newsletter. It might be an interesting stop for folks vacationing here around that time - literally a mile off I-90. I haven't been but it's on our summer schedule this year: The 39th annual Old Time Fiddlers Picnic will be held Aug 2-4, 2013 one mile South of Livingston, Montana (I-90) on US 89. Look for the signs. See fiddlerspicnic.blogspot.com/ for more details on the picnic. It is a good deal more than a picnic and welcomes any players of roots music. Lots of jamming around the campground which is on the Old Mercier Ranch. While there are spectators there are a good deal more musicians.
Tin Can Tourists are invited to gather in conjunction with the Picnic. It is dry camping with no electric, but there are porta potties provided, a free breakfast on Sun and a pot luck with meat supplied Sat afternoon. Camping is free but you must be a TCT member (membership available on site) and TCT members are expected to contribute for an event button to the tune of $25 each. We'll camp together on the site. Wonderful to go to sleep under the Montana sky being serenaded by bluegrass, old timey, mountain, Celtic, gospel, cowboy singers and the like.
Since there is a heavy emphasis on musicians we are hoping that many of the TCT members also bring and play their instruments. Dogs are welcome but keep them under control. Too dry this time of year for campfires on this ranch but propane campfires are OK. We plan to have a dash plaque and a few trophies but mainly this is just a great camp out.
US 89 is the Northern Gateway to the Yellowstone National Park and at the head of Paradise Valley which pretty much says it all. If you flyfish, hike, mountain bike or whatever, this is the event for you.
For further information contact Dal Smilie at dalsmilie@aol.com.

The custom Airstream is known as the "Fender Airstream". It seems that this Airstream gets around a lot and has hosted many performances. Here is the homepage:
Fender Airstream | Fender News & Tech Talk | Fender Guitar
I talked to one of the main people briefly, but did not ask him any questions about the length, age, tour schedule, TV, etc. as I was anxious to get back to the live music at Merlefest.
