Thanks for this info Mark.
Dan did you go to the Bluegrass Island event? Saw your photos and info on the Campsite Pics thread. Thanks.
Hoping to go to some festivals this year, but life keeps getting in the way!

I'm heading to the "Gottagetgon" at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds this afternoon! A very nice little folk festival.
I also volunteer every year for the Old Songs Festival, near Albany, NY; and camp there as well.
Labor Day is the "Last Gasp" up on the Antioch in the Adirondack foothills - a nice way to finish up the summer.
Still looking at other festivals to camp/attend in the Northeast. Great use for an Airstream!

You might checkout the Gray Fox Bluegrass Festival in NY in about late June or early July. It is a great festival with an outstanding lineup every year.

I made it and had a great time. Here are some photos.
Photo 1 is site B12 at Oregon Inlet CG. Photo 2 is Nothin Fancy from Lexington, Va. Photo 3 is the Trinity River family band from Florida. They were my favorite. Photos 4 & 5 were taken from my kayak as I paddled around the festival island park.

I have heard that is a good festival from friends who have gone. Is their campground/camping area amenable to a *long* 27FB and crew cab/long bed?

I believe you will be ok on size. The most important task is to get there early to find a spot that works for you. If the festival starts Thursday, it would be best to get there Tuesday if possible.
I don’t remember there being much shade. It was warm. Try to point the front north when you pick your spot.

Thanks Dan for the updates and photos from NC.
That last shot from the kayak is amazing, to think that you might have been listening to live bluegrass, with that peaceful westward [?] view!
I have posted a tune from the Trinity River Band on the OTRA I music thread. Great harmonies.

The GottaGetGon this past weekend is a small festival, so I got to park "downtown". Pretty much everything was within 100 yards of my Airstream...
I use the "Two Flamingo" security system: one watches the approach to the door, while the other guards the beer cooler...

Brenda and I enjoyed a solo performance by mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile at the Lime Kiln Theatre in Lexington, Va on Sunday.
One of the food vendors had a 66-68 Safari, so similar, but shinier than our 66 Tradewind.

Wayne Henderson festival
We have reservations at Grayson Highland for the third Saturday in June. This is a nice park with some great hiking trails and wild ponies. But,we are going to see Wayne Henderson’s guitar competition. This is a all day thing and in between competitors different bands play. The winner of the competition gets a guitar made by Wayne himself. We have been years ago and really enjoyed it.

I can't believe I haven't participated in this thread!!!!!
The only reason I bought an RV is because I was going to so many Bluegrass festivals. I have only been to one campground , and that was because my group was performing there. But I have driveway camped at friends houses to be close to a job.

For people on the East Coast
Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival in Woodstown, South Jersey, is very nice.
About 5000 attending, Very good line up.
About Grey Fox. Probably the best Bluegrass Festival in the Northeast. 16,000 people, about $275 per person. And it's wild. A lot of attendees only go to this one festival and they go all out. There's a nice creek to cool off in, and multiple stages. ( Main stage, dance tent, showcase tent, workshop tent) BUT, NOT a place to catch up on sleep. A lot of late night jams after the show.

Your description is right on. I last went in 2016 and was thrilled to see Bela Fleck, Sierra Hull and Ethan Jodziewicz up close on a small stage. Ethan is the best upright bass player I have ever heard.

There is a fine small-medium music festival coming up July 12-14 in central Virginia. It is the Redwing Roots Music Festival ( www.redwingroots.com) and is the home festival of the Steel Wheels Americana Band. It will be at the Natural Chimneys Regional Park in Mt. Solon, Va.
On site camping is sold out but there are a couple of private campgrounds not too far away and then Todd Lake and North River NFS campgrounds. The NFS campgrounds don’t have hookups; that is probably where I will camp.
PM me if you have any questions.
Dan
