Have a great time at "The Paperclip" and be sure to eat lots of those little red hot dogs piled high with chilli and onions. Yum. We never camped there as we live so close but have been a couple of times. Get ready for lots of grinding and bumping. It's a hoot.

Well we just got back from Bristol this weekend and they had Vacancy signs all over where the campgrounds were, it used to be that they were always full.....I guess that kind of just shows about the enconomy too. Have a great time, we had a blast.

We were one of those who drove down for the race at Bristol and didn't camp this time. We also noticed scads of empty spots at our old campground. The weather was great, the race was pretty good and the place looked pretty full all around the track but that's Thunder Valley. We'll go back for the night race but will camp up at higher elevations in Grayson Highlands State Park and enjoy cheaper camping and cooler temps.

yeah, I will be there for the August night race.....I had an injury of a broken arm..... so we could not bring down the camper and just stayed in a hotel room in stead....I did have a paid for camper site waiting for me in the landing....but anyway it was great weather and we had an awesome time.

I saw a thing on ESPN the other day which interviewed a family whose yearly vacation was camping at bristol for the week, however, this year they said they could not afford it. Also many tracks have announced they have cut their ticket sales sharply. I talked to one lady who said they had sites available to reserve at the track then 10 mins another lady said they didn't. I was more interested in the general admission anyway since we are only staying 2 nights. As long as the good ol 345 chugs down 220 like a stroll I'll be happy.

I've been to martinsville one other time for a truck race and actually met Ernie Irvan, as I was with the owners son for his sponsor at that, which was federated auto parts. He was a nice guy and gave some pics and autographs. What is the best way to get into the track from coming down 220S?? I cant remember if it was tricky or not...I just can't let my friends see this as being a trucker they always expect to navigate anywhere whether ive been there or not.

Martinsville campsites as viewed on the local news last night looked to be a bit muddy just like last year. After it rained here in the highlands all day today I hope Martinsville weather was better and our Airstream friends have already arrived and set up. Go #24!

Well we got in friday night around 9 and the main campground turned us away as they had plenty of sites left, but said there had been a few accidents and didnt want us to get stuck....as we saw a few mohos stuck on the way in. We ended up being escorted down the road and camping near a driveway for a set of apartments...there were a few campers behind us aways, this probably ended being good since it was not muddy where we were, just a longer walk and no one nearby to associate with. Saturday was a mess the truck race was rained out and cars were getting stuck everywhere in the general parking for the track. I did however, see an AS 370 the same year as mine but the maroon color and talked to him a bit the next day which made the trip exciting. The nascar race ended up being a great day and event, and we actually made if out very quick as we were closer to the exit.

Wasn't that nice that they were so accomodating to you and that you made it in and out without a mess? It was another great Martinsville race and too bad that there were so many empty seats with bumping and grinding like that going on. Would love to see your rig sometime out there on the road and until then...

Everyone there said it was the worst condition they had seen the fields, and the slowest they had seen it that many of them could remember. This was the first nascar race I had taken my rv to, but everyone there whether its employees or visitors are always friendly, partly due to kindness and the other half alcohol maybe...haha. It was kinda funny on the way back we stopped off 581 at the valley view mall there in roanoke?? I cant remember the name and got something to eat, and a Prevost coach parked behind us.

my wife and i took our 1970 streamline last weekend to bristol and had a blast! there were 1 airstream,1 argosy and us as the only 3 aluminum trailers there. it was packed but there was still a couple vacancys. we are going back in august and most likely to martinsville too. by the way that was the first time my wife and i ever went camping in a camper, and first time camping out of state. so was a great time. my old streamline pulls so easy its hard to tell its back there.

Hey Bass,
Our buddies from Richmond and us camped at All American for the past couple of years during both races. We would see one or two other Airstreamers nearby but that was it. It was always cool to see them though. This Fall we'll be camping up at Grayson Highlands State Park at the foot of Mt Rogers, the tallest in VA and hopefully enjoy the cooler weather at that altitude. We look forward to the night race again this year. While we enjoyed the Spring race weather we did feel there could have been a little more bumping and banging on the track. Maybe we'll see your aluminum in August.
