Lonestar Friends of Dorothy (FOD) Rally - Any Interest?

Ok, I convinced Frank to help me coordinate and host a Rally. So we're giving some thought to coordinating and hosting a Lonestar Friends Of Dorothy Rally. Of course, dependent upon if there is enough interest. Initial thoughts:

Sept. 26 - 29 (weather starts to cool off slightly by then, but still warm enough to swim, float rivers, etc.)

Location: Austin, TX
Possible RV Parks:
La Hacienda RV Resort & Cottages
Austin Oak Forest RV Park | Main
Austin Lone Star RV Park and Resort in Texas | Carefree RV Resorts

Possible Activities:

- Austin Pecan Street Festival
Pecan Street Festival
- Texas State Capitol
Plan Your Visit to the Texas Capitol - The State Preservation Board - Caretakers of the Texas Capitol
- Austin City Limits
Austin City Limits | Great Music. No Limits
- Bullock State History Museum
Home - Bullock Texas State History Museum - The Story of Texas
- Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center - The University of Texas at Austin
- Zilker Botanical Garden
Zilker Botanical Garden :: the Jewel in the Heart of Austin
- The Oasis Lake Travis
Welcome to the Oasis!
- Live music venues
- Float rivers

Any interest? There are other locations (Galveston Island, Port Aransas) for consideration as well but if there is interest from those outside the state of Texas then that's a pretty long haul to the coast. If interested let us know.

Great idea!

We'll join in as long as we're available that weekend. As much as I love my beautiful city, I would prefer to leave it for the weekend.

If it is in ATX, we'll probably opt to stay at home And meet up with the group for activities.

Hmmm. We are planning to go to the New Mexico Unit's Valley of Fires/White Sands National Monument Rally 18-22 Sept ... Hmmm. I wonder if we should just keep going ... Austin's only another 600 miles!

First, let me say I'm definitely interested.

That said, screw La Hacienda and their "10 year" rule. Unless you get blanket, written approval for anyone attending our rally I won't consider it, and I'd still rather not spend any of my money there.

Ok, then to:
1. Get lcurrie out of Austin and in the Airstream
2. Get TBRich about 1 hour less drive time (of course to put more pressure on you for a commitment)
3. Ensure DKB_SATX doesn't spend any $ at La Hacienda

How about one of my favorite Texas destinations => Garner State Park:
Garner State Park — Texas Parks & Wildlife Department

This works for me. All said though, I'm not opposed to Austin, I'm just lazy. Almost every activity you mentioned is in walking distance to my house, which I don't have to hook up a poo hose for. I'd come and hang out with everyone if you choose Austin, I'd just sleep on my much-nicer-home-mattress.

If you do decide on an ATX rally, we can have a pool party at our house in the afternoon if you'd like. I'm blocks from Barton Springs and Lamar. Debauchery and BBQ would be not only permitted, but encouraged.

Is it strange to let your AS friends see your house?? Is this a church/state separation that I should know about?

Sounds fun! Maybe I could plan a work trip and fly Zell in. Do any of those places have cabins? Keep us posted.

A couple of the locations in Austin have cabins.
Garner State Park has cabins.

Hopefully if there is enough interest where it will make it worthwhile for us to do this, and if everyone will give us some feedback on where they would like the location to be then we can make it happen. Garner State Park is truly a top Texas destination and is my favorite choice. But we're also open to many other great places:

Possum Kingdom State Park
Dinosaur State Park

Garner, PK, Dinosaur Valley are all good. The non-age-discriminatory places around Austin are fine too.

If you plan it I will come, and if David F can get time off he will too.

There didn't seem be much interest so we decided not to pursue organizing any formal event. However, if you or anyone else would like to meet and camp around that timeframe let us know and we would be interested in doing so. We could all meet in the Davis Mountains, Big Bend, anywhere in west Texas if it makes for a campout with you all and anyone else coming from the west and interested in camping.

All,

We're planning a beach trip around The date of Frank and Mike's original plan.

I'll post details here. We'd love to have an informal FOD Pop-Up Rally happen!

Sounds fun. If'we're not too worn out from selling the house and moving into the RV we may join. But will let you know for sure once you post the details and how everything aligns for us.
