July Whittington Woods Rally

July Whittington Woods Rally
July 16-18, 2010

Whittington Woods Campground has been a fantastic rally host in the past so why not have another rally at such a great location?

The campground is perfectly setup for a rally with a large covered pavilion and group fire pit. It also has a pool for cooling down on those hot July days and a playground to keep the kids busy. The campground provides complimentary coffee every morning in the pavilion and complimentary donuts on Saturday morning.

I'm going to steal Jack Canavera's idea and have hot dog reception on Friday evening in the pavilion. I'll provide the hot dogs, buns and condiments. Others can bring chips and light side dishes.

I always enjoy the trailer open houses so we'll have an optional open house from noon to 2:00 on Saturday. If you've ever wanted to see the inside of a classic motorhome or a 34 foot triple axle, now's your chance.

We'll have a potluck dinner Saturday evening followed by a nice campfire.

I've set up an event on the rally calendar with instructions on making your reservation.
Airstream Forums - Whittington Woods Rally

Hope to see you there.

Wow. This is a weekend when we're in between BBQ competition travel and can join you all. We've got the rally on our calendar and are looking forward to seeing everyone and going back to Whittington Woods.

We'll bring our Dutch oven. I need some DO mentoring! All I've done so far is Jambalaya.

Dutch Ovens are good, and I now count three out of the four coming so far who have them.

Excellent. The rally just wouldn't be the same without highlights of yellow.

Reservations can be made with the campground by using the following link Whittington Woods Campground at Benton | Make a Reservation or calling the campground at (618) 435-3401. Make sure you mention the rally so you get the discounted rate.

I bet the yellow will surprise a few people, lol. Oh well, our choice, our fun. Besides, it does match the truck.

I got a message from Whittington Woods to let me know that only two people have made reservations so far. There are six of us signed up, so please don't forget to make your reservation.

Steve (TinLoaf) suggested we do a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning, which sounds like a great idea.

I have a friend's recipe for buttermilk pancake batter, which her Dad used for 40+ years in his St. Paul, MN diner. It makes scrumptious pancakes in large quantities, and Steve & I can double-team cooking them for everyone.

Pancakes sound delicious. We'll provide breakfast sausage links.

I'm going to pick up a gallon jug of Mrs. Butterworth's syrup and a tub of butter.

Well, there's only one week to go and we still only have six trailers. Although I set this rally up as the WBCCI Southern Illinois Unit July Free Rally, as of this morning, not one single (non-Airforums) member of WBCCI has made a reservation.

I was hoping some of them would make a reservation when the newsletter came out, but that was two weeks ago and still no reservations. I'm trying to hold off judgment, but it's really pissing me off.

I'm hoping they just have waited til the last week to make reservations, or will just drive in.

If they don't show up, we will be the Southern Illinois July rally all by our li'l own selves, and a fine time will be had. There'll be plenty of good conversation over morning coffee, a hot dog roast Friday night courtesy of TinLoaf, a homemade pancake breakfast Saturday morning courtesy of a joint effort by several of us and a yummy potluck Saturday night. I'm going to make another batch of slush to be enjoyed over the weekend, too.

Hope to see some fellow Southern Illinois Unit members there.

Evelyn and I are wanting to make it. We just have a lot going on right now that is making it difficult to commit. Of course we are forum folk and not WBCCI so that does not increase your number there.

Yes, a great time will be had -- regardless of how many can attend. The Whittington rally is for AirForums members as well as WBCCI members.

I haven't decided what to make in addition to the sausage links for the pancake breakfast. Wish I had the recipe for the wonderful Dutch Oven potatoes we had at the Moraine View rally.
