Halloween Campout this weekend
Several of us are boondocking this weekend at LBJ Grasslands Nat. Park near Decatur Texas. Will have trick or treat, kids, dogs etc on Sat. Pot luck, no rules or meetings, just camping and commiserating. No power, water or dumping so bring what you need. should be good weather. Will have generators to share. All welcome. Here's directions.
Here are the directions:
From US287 going THRU Decatur:
US 287 N to Decatur
Exit Hwy 51
Turn rt at the stop light you come to when you exit the highway. (If you are coming 51 from Weatherford/Grandbury, just continue straight when you get to the intersection of Hwy 51 and US 287.
Go appx 3/4 mile to a four way stop.
Turn left (north) at the four way stop onto Trinity St.
Go past the courthouse. Trinity St turns into FM 730 at this point.
Continue north on 730. You will cross a set of railroad tracks.
From US 380 Bypassing Decatur:
Traveling WEST on US 380 you will be traveling JUST to the north of Decatur proper. You will turn off of US380 and take 730/N Trinity Rd which is AFTER the overpass for that road, so you will exit and actually go back to the east for a very short distance.
Traveling EAST on US380, you will exit off the highway JUST prior to reaching 730/N Trinity Rd.
The turn off from the highway is NOT a classic exit like on an Interstate, but rather just a intersection on the West Bound side of the highway (ie the northern most side). You can get to the turnoff from either side of the highway. Take a look at the Google Earth Map and you will see what I am describing in detail.
Common to both:
About a 1/4 mile past the railroad tracks Old Decatur Rd will fork off to the left. Turn left onto Old Decatur Rd.
Follow Old Decatur Rd appx 7 miles to a point where it forks with CR 2475 (also known as Audobon Road). Veer to the right (ie turning onto CR2475). The road will turn to gravel at this point.
Shortly after you will come to the first road on the right which is CR 2474. Turn right onto CR 2474
Follow 2474, it will cross a cattle gaurd and at that point turn into FS 900. Continue on.
You will come to a fork where there is a wooden map, info board. Stay to the right.
Continue on and you will pass a road that loops off to the left. Pass this.
Shortly after you pass the first loop there is a very old Live Oak and a road that cuts to the left. This is the campsite. There will be a sign there that reads "Dead Mans Bluff".
There is cell service available.
