I just watched Airstreams in the Sun video about the Burnstream community at Burning Man, WOW! Who is going to this event? Setting up community in the middle of a dessert with all the self expression and creative minds as this has me reeling! I don't think there is a way I can go to Africa but I think I might be able to swing Nevada in August. You need to register to view the videos. Watch it. That is sooo cool, or should I say sooo hot?!! Thanks to 2Air for his link in the Cairo thread.

Really wanted to go last year. I was in Oregion and a few friends went, including a writer friend who is a very seasoned world traveler. HE WAS DUMBFOUNDED by what he experienced at the Burn. Makes me want to go even more now.
Only problem is that I sure don't want to destroy my '06CCD in the porocess. I've been told that you WILL be cleaning dust and sand from every nook and cranny of your trailer for weeks after going, not to mention the sandblast effect of the blowing desert floor.
Guess I'll have to think of some other way to camp there!

Oh I certainly don't want to hurt the AS. Hmmm. Perhaps a rental would be in order. How about a tent or the truck? Personally I could use exfoliation and a little more grit. I think I have had my fill of structured over refined events. Time to live a little.
Tell me all!

I love the shoe picture on the playa, all the pictures are amazing! Fool's Ark is beautiful. Great photography. And you went in Van-Go. I am reading the website for first-timers survival.

This will be my 8th year and Kimber's 15th (yes really). And it will be Buttercup's 3rd year. I have seen old and new AS's out there and thety are no worse for the wear out on the playa.
Yes, the dust does get in but you can vacuum it right out again - however, you may not want to... (those who have been there know what I am talking about).
The dust is quite fine and fairly soft. When it blows it does no damage that I can see. regular road travel does far more damage.
We also are staying in Burnstream Court for our first time and are totally excited at the prospect of being around all those trailers!!!
I'm getting a bug here that I may want to try this event. You two are old hands for young folk! I am so glad to hear that about the AS. I think the AS set-up for being self contained with my hefty holding tanks and stove, bed and shelter from the sun and wind, would afford great comfort in that environment especially boondocking.
What's a green horn likely to be suprised and confronted with?

Thank you. I am reading. Now look what you started. I've even had an offer of a tutu and boa.

Dry camping is less of a problem than no dogs, but Orie is actually Baron's pet and looks like Brad intends to be available to dog sit...
I think Magic Carpet would be a good theme what do you think?
Too much heat and sun and dust? I have never been in the desert, suppose this tenderfoot would burn up right off?
