Dear Axel,
I am so proud that you are having your first rally. Airstream and the Wally Byam Caravan's have a tradition with the Netherlands.
In 1956 Wally Byam hired Ben Kemperman from Nijmegen to be the scout and interperter for the 1956 Wally Byam European Caravan. Ben then went to work for Airstream and led Caravans. In 1960 when our African Caravan met the European Caravan in Trieste, Italy, Ben was the designated leader for the 1960 Wally Byam European Caravan.
In the late 50's in college I had a good friend from the Netherlands, Henk Visser, world reknown long jumper.
In 1956 after the end of the European Caravan, my Mother and I, sailed from Rotterdam to New York. We repeated this in 1960. I miss the great Ris Tafels in Den Haag.
There is a great tradition of Airstream, and the Netherlands.
Have great rallies, enjoy, and have fun.
Best.
