Canyon of the Eagles Forums Rally, Lake Buchanan, Texas March 11-13 2011

A Forums Kid Friendly Spring Break Rally

Calling for a "last trip of the spring Eagle Viewing Forums Rally"

Forum member LoraR has suggested, due to litigation concerns,
maybe we should call it " Canyon of the Eagles everyone is on their own and parties at their own risk place where there maybe other Airstreams will be present thingy"

To read other liability and insurance issues please read this thread.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f288...isk-70098.html

More info to follow...Canyon of the Eagles is an Upper Colorado River Authority Park.

Recommend to make your reservations early - please indicate how many other sites are left after you make your reservation.

No "group activities" planned for this, other than a pot luck on both Friday and Saturday night, and Saturday is the last 4 hour "Eagle Viewing" boat trip of the season - a bit pricey for some with a bunch of kids in tow ($47 bucks a pop, I think) but the boat trip is certainly not mandatory. As with other similar rallys, make your own reservations and plan your own side trips....the only thing Mary and I plan to do up there is the eagle viewing boat trip on Saturday morning.

We'll probably get there just prior to dark on the 10th. Fairly long drive for us from Houston.

I know I put 2010 on post #1 - Remember, besides being old, fat, and stupid, I have the past Chemo's to blame my lapses on - good catch Soldiermedic.

Reservations are a bit of a PITA

First off, this is a LOWER Colorado River Authority Park (LCRA), not an Upper Colorado River Authority Park - my bad.

You HAVE to call 512-389-8900 to make reservations.

This is an auto-reply number (how I hate these) that will guide you through the Texas State Parks to the LCRA reservation answering system. If you are patient and follow the voice prompt instructions properly, press 1 for English, not 2 for Spanish, you will eventually get to talk to a real person. You will be billed $5 (US - not pesos) for this experience.

Secret "hidden" fees as follows:
  • $5 Reservation Fee (described above) charged to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to make the reservation. First night charges and the reservation fee will be charged when you make the reservation - The rest of the camping fees will be due at check in.
  • $4 per person PER DAY "use charge" just to be in the park (there is no reciprocity between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the LCRA). This will be charged when you check into the park.
Hope this does not put an economic hardship on anyone - comments on using the LCRA parks in lieu of the TPWD Parks are welcomed.

I think the $20 per night water/sewer/electric charges are reasonable.

The Canyon of the Eagles park can be seen on the web here:

LCRA - Canyon of the Eagles Nature Park

Please note that the camping sites and the lodge are operated by two different entities.

Boat Cruise info here:

http://www.vtrc.com/index.html

Types and Costs of Cruises:

http://www.vtrc.com/year_round_cruises.html

Reservations for the 4 hour cruises with lunch are required - $37.50 + $5 reservation fee if I am reading it correctly - military and over 60 discounts in some cases.

Made our reservations today. They had 14 spaces available when I called. The Goodwins are planning to attend also. So make that 13 available. Look forward to camping there again, it's a really pretty park. Lora and Mike

We're in! Just made our reservation. There were eleven full hook up sites still available when I asked. Can't wait to see you all there! Now it's time to get busy getting Abby ready to camp!

Not a WB member so International is out. Burning man happens when school starts. The bash will be way too far for me to head from South Texas. Nope, looks like I will make my own fun on weekend trips, and host a rally or two.
