Doing my final packing here, and thought I'd check in with my fellow BASH parents on a potential movie selection for the Jim's Magical Movie Menagerie. That and the cocktail selection for accompanying tiki lounge.

For movies, I was thinking of the 1979 Bill Murray classic, "Meatballs." It's about your typical summer camp experience with lots of hi jinks and a rivalry with an upper crust nearby camp, but also has a nice uplifting story line about an outsider kid that Murray coaches, with a happy ending. I can't recall any potty mouth, and the closest thing to racy is the suggestion of some skinny dipping but no visuals. I thought it might appeal to kids of all ages (it was a favorite of mine in middle school). I also thought it might be fun for the grown ups especially Gen X'ers like myself.

Another option is "Oz the Great and Powerful," an Oz remake. I think I have the original in my collection as well. Also PG, I'm guessing because of some scary scenes.

If we need to keep it rated G, I have a small collection including the automotive classic "Cars." Suggestions welcome!

On cocktails, right now I'm thinking:

Zombie
Painkiller
Major Bailey

Plus the usual Sidecar.

Thoughts?

Confiscating the phone sounds like a wonderful idea, but I'm afraid he might have withdrawal! Seriously though, does anyone know if there is a good reception for Verizon there? He could try to handle some things over the phone, but if he can't find someone to take the calls and something major happens, that would be a long commute back -- five hours or so. Might end up there after-the-fact, and that wouldn't be good.

If someone has RV and can bring it, that would be great, not sure if I can get it in on Netflix by Tuesday.

I have it as an AVI or an MPG or something digital. Likely it's not hi-def, though; should be old 720 x whatever DVD format. I don't have it directly on disc. Are you doing data format or DVD?

I'm not sure how much "Meatballs" will capture my kids' attention (age 5 and 7) but by the opposite side of the coin, "Cars" may not appeal to other / tween ages. Toss up. I've got a host of other young kids / Disney / Pixar movies that I can share as well if need be.

Not to be a post-hog, but one more thing to add to the thread...

Andrea and I are on a no-kids vacation right now. We called the kids at grandma's back home and talked to them the other morning. Andrea asked our 5 year old, "Do you know what we're doing when we get home?" And his response was, "We're goin' CAMPING!" The Bash is the only thing on our kids' minds right now. We pack up the Argosy on Wed. and depending on the kids' annoyance of us, we'll pull in to the Bash Wed. evening or Thurs. around lunchtime.

See all of you there!
