Carol,

Hope you are continuing to recuperate... wish you could have been well enough to join along. San Felipe is a pretty sleepy quiet little place during the off season. Some places aren't open, and others unfortunately have suffered from the economy along with everyone else, but the gulf is constantly doing its thing along with the many sea birds we watch each day as we sit and sip drinks from our lawn chairs.

I am so glad that you folks made it to our sleepy little town. Deb and I live in San Felipe for large part of the winter. I'm due back on Friday. How much longer will you be in town? Ron

I'm sure enjoying following along! Thanks for the beautiful pics - it's been raining here for several days so at least I can dream of warmer weather!

Swap meet on Saturdays

North of town about 7 miles, the entrance is next to the Pemex station near the "Rockadile" sign. It is in El dorado ranch, you just tell them at the gate that you are going to the swap meet. They have vendors with fresh fish, scallops and shrimp for about $6 a pound. You an get homemade tamales, shrimp and fish tacos there also.

In town on Chetumal across from Fat Boys pizza is a great little store "Licores Rivera" where you can get filet mignon for about $6 a pound it is VERY good.
Our favorite place to eat is a place on the south end of the Malecon call "La Morena", they have great fish and shrimp tacos and if the get the shrimp cocktail you can eat the leftovers for about a week.
Enjoy the town and spend as much as you can here, the town needs it.

Well, I finally got more of my pictures downloaded to my hard drive so I could post (sure wish there was an app to post from my iPhone.... hint, hint, to those programming types out there...) So we will try to bring you up to date.

Found a good interent cafe, believe I mentioned that in an earlier post. Very busy little place. Lots of student types and a few Americans from time to time.

Here are a couple of pics....

Art time for Don and Jim

Another view of where we are... We tried to find a place with a "live" palm tree, but this was next to the water...

Trailer keep busy

I was stuck in the trailer because of the sand storm. Some read, I decided to draw a picture of Jim form a photo the other day while he was watching the sun rise. Then I had some Photoshop fun with the picture.

Well, I can't remember what I was thinking about at the time he did that portrait ......maybe it was how grateful I was having the Pressure Pro Sensors on our trailer when we got down here. I had a sensor go off telling me I had a low tire and was able to change it before it went flat. Had it fixed yesterday for 50 pesos ($4) and my spare was in good shape and up to pressure. Had a piece of metal I must have picked up on the way down when we pulled off the road for a pit stop. There's lots of trash everywhere! I suspect if we only have one flat, we will be doing good!

We're having lots of fun here and feel fortunate to be enjoying the warmth and sunshine. Lots of walks on the beach and time to read books on our Kindle, practice my mandolin, and even some water color painting. So we have to schedule our days pretty tight to get it all in!

Hasta la vista!

Friday....

Hello everyone!

Today we had a great visit from Str8Strm ... brought us printed directions for how to exit at the border, lots of good info and some shrimp.... Tomorrow is a flea market/swap meet and we expect to go. Should be fun.

We also took a drive to see the countryside for a while today with Jim and Cheryl and had an interesting ride. This morning the water suddenly stopped at the RV park (camping place, RV park is a loosely used term...) and it took awhile to get it repaired, but it did get fixed. Yippie! Then it was time to return and nap once again. All this vacation is really, really hard work!

Last night we had "movie night" with popcorn and everything at Jim & Cheryl's.

Our camping spot is next to a nightclub and the locals say it can be pretty noisy on the weekends sometimes... we will see how it goes, as we saw the beer truck unloading a LOT of beer into the nightclub this afternoon!

Will try to post more pics soon... keep on continuing with our "virtual" rally to Baja!

met with the rally group

We got together at the swap meet to stroll and get our weekly food supplies. Grande shrimp $12 a kilo, small scallops $10 a kilo and halibut for $6 a kilo and homemade chicken tamales. We can take all of it across the border, we have to head back up to LA for 2 weeks, just in time to get pounded by a big series of storms.

For anyone interested in coming down, in March we have the San Felipe 250 off road race (12,13,14) and the Blues and Arts fiesta March 27th. Playa Bonita campground is a great place to stay for the fiesta as you can walk to the ball field where the event is held.

Our rally amigos have headed off for one of those mandatory beach siestas.

More envy! Go ahead - rub it in...

Nice pic of Jim. He looks good digitized. The beach looks great, naps and clubbing sound fine. Here in the PNW, it's gray, dripping and 36 degrees or raw, wet cold.

What - me sulk?

More Baja...

Saturday....

Well, actually Friday night first. We enjoyed great barbequed shrimp, much of it compliments of Str8Strm! Yum. Then a evening by the fire dancer! Life is hard.

Today we met up with Ron and Debbie (Str8Strm) and joined them at the local swap meet. Fun, lots of goodies. Great looking produce, and interesting art work, etc. After we enjoyed a visit to their lovely vacation home and then returned back to the trailers for lunch and nap.

Super big thanks to Str8Strm for their wonderful hospitality! If you ever come down this way, be sure and let them know ~ they will give you the skinny on all the best local items.

Here are a couple of pics! Gotta think about heading towards home on Monday. Watching the weather carefully, looks like the whole west coast is in for icky weather. We may have to hunker down somewheres....
