Informal Caravan to Alumapalooza
A group of us finally got together at the Belle Isle Rally this past weekend and decided on a meet up point for those traveling from the mid-atlantic region. Due to the variance in starting locations we decided to move the meet up point further west inside the Ohio borders. It will be a short caravan time wise but, it should still be fun to travel the last part of the trip together as a group. Remember this is not a WBCCI or WDCU sponsored event. This is just a group of fellow airstreamers (4 rigs confirmed so far) joining together for fun.
We chose Barkcamp State Park in Ohio as the location where we will join up.
Ohio State Parks - Barkcamp State Park
I've already checked the site availability and I have made my reservation. I chose site #6 and the other sites in that loop are #7 through #14. So when you make your reservation pick one of these sites so we will all be together. There are plenty of sites available throughout the park as well.
Plan on arriving at Barkcamp sometime on Monday, May 30th or early Tuesday morning May 31st and we will depart from Barkcamp State Park on Tuesday morning traveling together to Jackson Center.
Barkcamp is located at exit 208 on I70 in Ohio. It is located outside of Belmont, Ohio. This allows us close access to the interstate and will leave us with a final drive time to Jackson Center on Tuesday morning of approximately 3 1/2 to 4 hours depending on traffic conditions. I would suggest everyone use Google maps to locate the park and become familiar with the route from I70 to the park.
It has been suggested that we leave the interstate east of Columbus and travel on single lane highways the final part of the trip to avoid using I270 north around Columbus. We can discuss the final trip route on Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
If your planning or heading to Alumapalooza and your going our way we hope you will take the time to join us in this little adventure.
If anyone has any questions send me a PM.

We just reserved site 8 at Barkcamp. We were there in July of 2009. It's a really nice park. For those who may be curious, here are some shots of our campsite and some random pictures of Airstream @ Jackson Center.
1. Barkcamp.
2. Our site.
3. Site with flamingo.babe.
4. Airstream Factory.
5. New Bambi.
6. Vintage display.
7. Wally's Gold.
8.The Victorinox rig.
Please join us if you can. Looking forward to meeting up with all.

From central Arkansas to Jackson Center
We are leaving Saturday, traveling I-40 until we get tired, then stopping on the road Saturday night - might make it to Nashville depending on how easily we get out of town. (It's always something!) We are hoping I40 to Memphis is not washboarded after all the flooding. We will travel onward toward JC on Sunday, and maybe get close enough to camp Sunday and Monday in one place not far from JC. (I hate one-nighters, too much trouble!)
Our grandson, 8 years old, will be with us for the first few days and then off to visit with his Dad in Cleveland. He is bringing his bicycle and we're bringing ours. We said no to the Xbox, so he won't be able to help any other little video game nuts with video game withdrawal. He'll be enduring it himself!
After Alumapalooza we're heading up to Geneva State Park on Lake Erie. Anyone have any good or bad reviews on Geneva State Park? We have reservations for a week there and then will wander off generally eastward - or - well, wherever the weather looks promising.
We'll be looking for other Airstreams along the trail. We're in a big red Dodge diesel pulling a 1992 Excella 29'. We hope to see others.
If we can get online, we'll be checking here and on twitter..
This is only our second rally, and our first time at Alumapalooza. We're excited that we will get to meet more Airstreamers.

Oh, and our Excella is very much a work in progress. She needs some cosmetic work! But already she is a great home on wheels and she follows the TV like the class act she is (or will be when we finish with her).

Yep, Antsy did acoustic last night and will be with the Troubs tonight. Hopefully the weather will continue to cooperate over the next 18 hours or so.
The service center has a 1970 Tradewind 25 on display and for sale (about $65-70K) that has been complete redone: every skin panel is new, hickory cabinetry, aluminum walls, two flat screen TVs, etc. It's almost like an International-Classic hybrid. I have lots of pics of the trailer and will post on Sunday when we return.
We've had a great time!

From ASL's Rich L.'s blog, "During the day we’d had Open House, and David Winick roamed the grounds to select a winner for “Best Open House Presentation.” He ultimately chose Hunter Hampton’s trailer, so she is now the (very) proud owner of an Airstream Life “Wally” award. She told me: 'It doesn’t go with my decor at all, but I’m hanging it in the trailer anyway.' "
I hope some one will post pictures of the Open House and the winning trailer too. Guess I need to wait until you all get home. We'll be here.

Airstream refurbished a 1970 trailer with all new skins and a hickory interior. It can be yours for $67,000.
Of course the Eddie Bauer model was on display.
The results of the Dutch Oven Cooking seminar.
The community grill.
Did I mention it was hot?
