Dacia,

Can we add 2009 to the graphic?

If you want to declutter the graphic, you could add a gold colored 50 on the left side of the african continent to signify the 50th anniversary, and then you could free up the space around the thecontinent.

Alright everyone,

I finally was contacted by the Cape RV Park owner, and since another group booked before us, they get dibs on the Rec center for use on Friday and Saturday. I want to ensure we have overhead cover for the main catered event.

I have a few other things in the works, and one of them will end up working out just fine for us. One option is one of the small convention centers in Cape that I am working with the Cape Chamber of Commerce on. Another option is a local park with pavilion for use. A third option is renting a tent or canopy from the local rental supply house. If we go option 3, I will be in contact with a few sponsors to see if we can lower the cost, and get a generator to power lights. The Capetown RV dealer may be a good option for this.

The owner has blocked off 20 sites together for the rally. If we fill the 20, then he will free up more. We have to have at least 10 to get the rally rate, and I don't foresee a problem with that. I also spoke with him regarding reservations, and I will be the one making the reservations. I will be putting together a reservation form that you can print off and mail to me for the event. I will make reservations once I receive the forms. In the case that anyone should cancel, the park has requested we notify them NLT September 2nd.

As for the catered meal, there are many options. I remembered reading about the final meal the original caravanners attended at the Cairo Hilton, and asked Pee Wee about it. Pee Wee sent me the original menu they were given that he had everyone sign. The menu was shrimp cocktail, tomato soup, Sirloin steak, squash ala turque, french fries, mixed green salad, and a dessert called Charlotte Marie Antoinette (I couldn't find any info on this dish).

Would anyonebe interested in having this meal preparred for Saturday night? It may not be soup weather, but something with cool tomato may be refreshing if it is still warm out.

Everyone throw your suggestions into the hat. I leave for Annual training on Friday, and won't be around till late June. hope to see some thoughts before then.

Steve

I have been able to find out some additional information about the dessert. My sources indicate that a "Charlotte" is a french dessert dish with the following basics:

Charlotte - a classic French dessert that usually consists of a ladyfinger 'mold', filled with fruit, mousse, custard or whipped cream - would definitely not fall under the 'quick 'n easy' category, mostly due to the fact that you must dehydrate the ladyfingers ahead of time. But don't let that stop you! The rest is pretty simple and the final result is so worth the effort! It would be perfect for the Holidays or for those times when you wish to make something special to impress the crowd!

The photo below is of a "Charlotte", but it is not the Marie Antionette -- I am still checking my gourmet links for more information about that particular charlotte.

When served -- this is the result:

You can count me as one who would be interested in re-creating the menu from the original event.

Kevin

Charlotte Marie Antoinette

I haven't been able to uncover the precise recipe or even a general description of this interpretation of the dessert. One hint was uncovered in a wikipedia article that indicated a Charlotte Marie was considered to be the most difficult to make of the charlottes -- but nothing else was noted.

I find it highly unlikely that we will find a caterer willing to make this. All of the ones I have spoken with so far do not like to deviate too far from their menu, and attempting something like this may be too much for them. To borrow a quote from Pee Wee in my discussion with him, "Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice cream would be very American".

Lots of hustle and bustle today packing for my two weeks of fun in the sun. Hope to secure a place for the dinner, and the catering company.

Since our esteemed campground host has already booked the rec center, I looked at the other options. The rental company in town has canopy tents, and even though the price was good, we would have to put it up and take it down ourselves. Not saying that this is a hard task, but this is a camping trip, and I don't want to bother people by asking them to help me put up a 30x40 canopy.

Only 2.5 miles away from the campground is Kiwanis Park. They had a park pavilion with lights and 110 power available, so I booked it for Saturday evening. We can all carpool over since it is so close. There is a playground for kids, so that will be nice.

I have a request in at Broussard's cafe to cater the event. They cannot do the soup, not sure about the squash, and the dessert is way out of their league. They can however provide Steak, Shrimp, Fries, Salad, and a dessert.

I leave tomorrow morning for annual boring..errr training. Will be accessible on the crackberry while away I hope.

Capetown to Cairo Information Flyer and Mailer

To All,

Ms. Sugarfoot has worked very hard with Pee Wee to put together this beautiful flyer for the rally. This has most all of the information on the rally, events, fee breakdown, etc. If anyone has a question, please send it to the mail listed on the flyer (rvleaks@yahoo.com). This is the only mail I can receive while out of town.

Also, please refer others to the thread to be able to retrieve this document.

Thank you Dacia, and Pee Wee for your hard work on this!

Steve

Steve,

This looks like it's coming together nicely. I hope to make it there. Should be lots of fun regardless!

Greetings from Springfield, I'll.

The food is a work in progress while the caterers figure it all out.

For anyone attending other rally events, please feel free to bring the flyers with you to spread the word.

Check Is In The Mail

I am dropping the entry form in the mail today. We are looking forward to attending this rally then going to The Wilds the following weekend. And probably returning to work a few days in between.

It's going to be lots of road miles in between but I think it will be worth the effort.

Thanks everyone for all the kind comments on the logo and flyer.

Lucius, I'm just tickled that you and Danielle will be attending. Wow, that's quite a haul all the way to Atlanta and back between rallies.

Steve, the check's in the mail!
