Maybe one of the local chamber folks or media people who have been contacting me about this will have interest in helping.

I will be towing with my Cadillac Eldorado Convertible since the Suburban is out with a broken gear in the transfer case. I will also have my flags and heavy duty poles so that they can be flown while on the caravan.
Kevin
P.S.: This is an event worth taking a personal leave day to participate!

Pee Wee sent me two files the other day, and I have been so busy I have not had time to process them. The first listing is an alpha roster for the African Caravan. The Children were listed separate from their parents on separate lines. Their WBCCI number is listed as well, and where they were from. Any interest in having each trailer use a WBCCI number on a placard representing one of these original adventurers? We could print it on the name badges. Speaking of name badges, could Maccamper chime in to let us know how they may look (Fantastic I am sure!)
The second bit of info is a listing from the 1959 WBCCI directory that shows what previous caravans the African travelers had been on.
A month from now we will be caravanning together to celebrate our counterparts 50 years ago. I cannot wait for this event!
Friday night seafood boil?
I spoke with Maccamper today and they told me that they will be bringing their new propane fired turkey fryer/seafood boiler. I thought it would be neat to have a seafood boil during the boon dock on Friday night. I know some may have no interest in the Crayfish or shrimp, but there are veggies too! Does anyone else have interest in a seafood boil that Friday night? The picture below looks too good to pass on

Late last night I received an email full of pictures from the African caravan. Some fo these pictures are available on th internet, but there were others I had not yet seen. I wanted to make this PDF available for everyone.
My absolute favorite thing in the file is a quote on Feb 6, 1960 in Cairo, Egypt from Wally that says, "Because the impossible takes a little longer we arrived a little late, but you can tell the world that the Wally Byam Caravan from Capetown to Cairo is history."
28 Days and counting.
Steve

You asked if maccamper would want to do a polishing demo at the rally. Laird is willing to share what he is learning as a novice this first time as he polishes our 1974 29 ft. Ambassador. At this point he has removed the clearcoat and started to compound. He is aware that lots of approaches to polishing exist so he will just be talking about the one method he chose to follow.
As a side note, the livingroom of our "Emma" will look quite a bit different this time. As a break from the tedious polishing, Laird has gutted from the kitchen counter by the entrance door forward. He's rebuilding the gaucho, reconfiguring the street side credenza, making a new diningroom table, patching a couple of soft spots in the floor, and laying cork in that area. Folks are welcome to see that work at the rally as well. The livingroom renovation is a work in progress with plans to complete it by the Branson Fall Rally.

Looks great, wish I could eat the stuff! Got this allergy to shellfish......but I'm sure there will be plenty more stuff to eat!

I took our name off the boondocking list for Thursday night (Sept 10) at Shawnee Park. I talked to Sally at Cape RV Park this morning and we're able to check in a day early (Sept 10). We realize that the boondocking is a free night and are willing to pay for the extra night at Cape RV.
Isadora, we totally understand the seafood allergy. Thank you very much for mentioning it! In our extended family we have to plan meals around various allergies and dietary restrictions from celiac to red dye to msg .... to low sodium ... and more.
Steve, maybe the seafood boil would be better at Branson where we tend to have more folks participating. We could do the seafood boil with our propane cooker while Ted fries the turkey with his. Might be easier to pull it off in Branson where our campsite (and cooking) can be closer to the pavilion.
Isadora, are you allergic to tuna casserole with chopped eggs? (just kidding )

Last night a group of us who will be attending the rally sat around the fire while watching the original Cape Town to Cairo film. I have to say that I was amused, and chuckled at some of the things the narrator said.
As long as I can convert this file correctly, I will be providing all attendees of the rally a DVD with the movie on it and many pictures from the African Caravan.
We also picked up three more registrations over the weekend, so welcome XBob2, Weigand01, and 76 Sovereign to the rally. I believe Xbob2 has just purchased the Around the world Ambassador that Lumatic was selling. What a piece of history!
Another prize has been added to the list, and looks to fit neatly inside your silver bullet.
All merchandise orders need to be placed by next Friday the 21st. After that it will be on a day to day basis if the company can add on to the order.
Awesome Steve.....glad we picked up some more folks... and prizes.....I want/need a flag pole holder!!!
