Just a friendly reminder to everyone out there that the deadline for registration is one month from today. In addition to that, all orders for coffee mugs or the blue shirts must be made by the 21st of August. Oldtrucksrul is making his own shirts, so I am not sure on the deadline for his clothing line.
I have not received registrations from everyone on the sign up page, and didn't want anyone to be left out.
I left a message for VW Vagabond welcoming them to the rally if they want to attend, and we won't even make them paint their bus silver.
After polling friends that grew up in the 50s, we're adding good 'ol Mac & Cheese. This dish was mentioned by nearly all. We found a good version in "How to Enjoy Speed Cooking with your New GE Automatic Electric Range", circa 1955. Mom's family never threw anything out. We have both the range (it still works) and the cookbook that came with it.
Cut and Paste THE LIST as you add to it . . .

Ah yes .... Friday nights in the Fifties in my family meant either macaroni and cheese or fish sticks and iceberg lettuce with Miracle Whip salad dressing for dinner -- well, we called it supper back then.
Tuna casserole with chopped hard boiled eggs. Uck!
I was wondering if anyone would mention tuna casseroles . . I was afraid to bring up the topic ... ? You'd lose maccamper with the chopped hard boiled eggs -- for sure.
We so hate that we are going to miss this rally!! I thought early on that you all might need help with 50's era recipes, but that does not seem to be the case. We ate lots of tuna casserole, homemade mac & cheese, fish, etc. Friday nights in central Illinois still feature all-you-can-eat fried walleye or something similar. We did love tuna casserole, but no hard-boiled eggs, please. Have a great time!

I toyed with the idea of making a "Back to Bataan" Spam casserole, but rejected that in favor of my aunt Bertie's Date Nut Cake. In all probability, I could have found some additional Spam recipes in my uncle's foot locker as he was a World War II Army Cook and maintained a three-ring binder with his favorite recipes that he used as a basis for what he prepared for the mess hall.
