CRAFT PROJECT!
Many gals that attended last year’s Anniversary Rally participated in the sew-a-pillow-slip craft session. Surprisingly, in spite of the fact that we were working in a tent, we produced 18 glamping pillow cases! The project was such a success that this year we are going to try another craft session!
The project this year is for a fabric Ohio State Parks Wall Hanging that you can use to track the Ohio State Park Campgrounds you have camped in! If you want to make one you will need to “pre-order” a $7.00 kit that will have all of your supplies. We will have sewing machines, ironing equipment, pins and expert helpers to help you complete the project.
An option for people not from Ohio is to complete a similar National Parks Map wall-hanging.
Please e-mail and let me know if you want to reserve a kit for this project : ellambrown1952@roadrunner.com
You can pay for the kit at the rally.
Ohio State Parks Wall Hanging
Created for TheAirbiscuit Anniversary Rally and Chili Cookoff – 2014
by Ella Brown
Your Kit contains:
(1) Ohio State Parks Map ironed on a 12” square fabric.
(2) Pre-cut border strips
(1) Fabric for backing
(1) Iron-on batting
Steps to make:
1. Pin a border strip to the
top edge of the map fabric square and sew with a ¼” seam. Trim even with the sides. Repeat with the other border strip on the
bottom edge. Iron both seams
towards the border and press flat.
2. Pin a border strip to one
side edge of the map – extending the length of the map and the top and bottom sewn borders. Sew with a ¼” seam. Trim even with the sides. Repeat with the other border strip on the other
side edge. Iron both seams
towards the border and press flat.
3. Trim the batting to fit the bordered map square and Iron onto the back/wrong side of the map square.
4. Trim the backing to fit the finished map square and pin
right sides together to the finished map square around all edges. Sew with a 1/4”-1/2” seam, leaving an opening of 2” to turn.
5. Clip the corners (to reduce bulk) and turn right side out.
Work and roll the corners so they are square and finger-press the seam around the sides. Then press and steam with an iron.
6. Tuck the edges of the opening to the inside and pin in place. Sew around the entire edge of the square
very close to the edge to close the opening and finish the edge.
7. You can buy tiny little buttons at to sew onto the State Parks you have visited – or use puffy paint to color the dot – or embroidery thread to “X” the dot.
