Winterport Music Festival Rendezvous-Maine 8/1/2008
It's gonna be cold tonight. Well below zero!
Got me thinkin' 'bout Winter.
Got me thinkin' 'bout Winter Rig Or Rent '08. Got me thinkin' 'bout Winterport Music Fest in AUGUST! They invited us two years ago, and we had such a good time we're going back. The line-up of talent has been put together and I can't wait...
In a nutshell, it's a RENDEZVOUS.
Dry camping Friday August 1st through Sunday the 3rd.
$15 a rig per night (Friday & Saturday nights),
Festival Fee $5 pre person, children under 12 free.
Early Arrival/Late Departure Available.
Music Begins Saturday around Noon until 8:00 PM. Food & Craft Vendors On Site. Area Brewers Beer & Wine Garden Saturday during the Festival.
I've printed out the sign up sheet - check will be in the mail to the hosts this Wednesday.
We are thinking of just staying in Maine after this rally. We'll book a local campground, hang out and relax and then head up to the NEU Maritime Discovery Caravan rendezvous point in Lincoln, ME that next Thursday or Friday. This all depends on how much vacation time DH has put aside for Airstream activties this year.

That's what we did last year. Booked the rest of the week at a campground further on up the coast. A super-duper week...

I can see the basketball & tennis courts in that picture. Just beyond those courts is a walking trail which is about a 10 minute walk back to the store and the Winterport Winery Welcome to the Winterport Winery whence cometh Flying Dutchman and other goodies (my favorite is the Blueberry Dry.)
Last year Michael told us his parents were Wally members! He also told us that if there were enough interested folks at the rendezvous this year he would do a private wine tasting for us!

Yes! A private wine tasting! Even if it's not private let's do a wine tasting!

WOW- this looks like a great time.Wish Scotty could beam me up!
Just went to a blues festival this past weekend and had the pleasure of Seeing/hearing Albert Cummings a Mass. guy! You probably know him already as he's a local to you folks. This guy RIPS, go see him if you get the chance, and then also take in Roy Rogers & The Delta Rhythm Kings, if you like slide guitar.
And Los Lobos was there also- 5 yes FIVE electric guitars belting it out East L.A. style. Yikes I love live music.
So who else are you hiding up there in New England?
Leon and I will not be able to attend, and I'm really disappointed. I've been informed that I must leave for CA (for work) that Sunday.
I'm on the road (for work) more than I'm home lately. I'd rather be traveling in my Airstream......
Oooo, this is a bummer. I was thinking this is a rendezvous you really enjoy, but then are there any you don't enjoy? We're really gonna miss you two!
With fuel prices being what they are, I'm hoping folks might take advantage of this this low cost event as a way of offsetting their their travel cost a bit.

We (meaning me) really wanted to attend this adventure.
And as for being low cost, this rally cannot be beat and there is great entertainment to boot!
During the next two years I will be looking for more "low cost / no cost" camping options for NEU rallies. It's one of the things the WMNHU already knows how to do and organize, we should take advantage of their learnings.

Is this event really only six weeks away? Hard to imagine as we're still firing up the pellet stove to take the chill off at night!

I don't really think we are "hiding" anyone, but there seems to be plenty of pickers & grinners around; Luther Guitar Johnson, Sleepy LaBeef... and then there's this guy: J.S.Cipot Website

I've just received some info on the ever illusive Steve Coyle who will be appearing at the Winterport Rendezvous.
It goes like this: In addition to Kings of Strings with Jay Geils and Gerry Beaudoin (think swingin' hoppin' jazz!), we have 7 other great acts. Today I'd like to talk about singer songwriter Stevie Coyle who must have THE most varied background of any of our performers. Influenced early on by his neighbor bluegrass string-meister David Lindley and his piano playing grandmother, Stevie started finger picking, like so many others, after hearing that first Hot Tuna album. He then went on to pick up degrees in Theatre and Theology, which prepared him well to perform with The Royal Lichtenstein Circus "doing comedy, magic, wire-walking, sword-swallowing, unicycling, juggling, rola-bola and working with dogs, cats, birds, bears, monkeys, horses, and even house cats."
Jeezum. Next stop, Marine World, announcing orca, dolphin, sea lion, tiger and elephant shows. Stevie has even appeared on tv on such shows as Cheers and The Young and the Restless....His musical endeavors included folk duos with The Frontmen and The Back Room Boys, and later he cofounded the whiz-bang string band The Waybacks. That's some kind of bio--we're looking forward to having him at the music festival...
