Doug, I love the ladder frame you can see in that photo... is that custom?

JStanley, I was hoping to not have to gain permission. Seeking permission will make it formal and controlled. We will be told where to go and when to go. We will probably be escorted and we will be charged a huge fee to have the privilege to drive through our nations capital. I will go and scout the route this week. I will look for signs of restriction as to where is okay and where is not. I was in DC just recently and there were countless big trucks driving around the area near the mall. I saw many of those mobile billboards driving around everywhere, even in front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I would love to see the publicity generated by the cops pulling over 5 or 6 Airstreams on Constitution Ave... CNN would have a field day with that. I was trying to keep this caravan small and informal. I wanted it to just be a bunch of enthusiasts out for a drive through the capital. Asking permission takes it to the next level and will turn it into big event. I will listen to what others involved want to do, and proceed in that direction. Is this when a committee needs to be formed? I suspect I know what Wally would do....

Why not form a protest group and then we could set up on the mall. Maybe the unethical use of aluminum in beer cans. We could march around drinking beer, from bottles

just a little follow up... a trip permit is required. The permit will run $50 and is good for six days it can be obtained online through District of Columbia: Department of Motor Vehicles - Information - Tickets & Hearings - Driver's Licenses Point System I guess the question is it worth the fee? If you get to the mall just before 10am there is parking right on the mall for oversized vehicles. Might be nice to have a trailer for breaks and all, but $50 is a bit of money for just a photo. Like I said earlier, I will do what the group wants...

I think that's for commercial vehicles, not RVs. At least, that's how I read that page.

I have been searching through DMV, Park police, state police sites... not a think about trailers not being allowed to through downtown. I called DC 311 and they said a trip permit was required. I am personally leaning towards just doing it and taking my chances.

Aluminum & Medical Mental Study

Shacksman. I think you’re on to something. A protest group against the unethical use of aluminum in beer cans. Great!

If I remember right, beer drinking Alzheimer’s patients have been found to have traces of Aluminum in their brains. Makes them light headed, I think.

The committee of Doctors Against Anecdotal Anomalies in Hospitals (DAAAH), reported in a study published in a recent issue of the Journal of Interesting Nonreproducible Things (JOINT) that one or two a day is good but against the law. I think they said to remember that beer is good any way. Now what was it about the Airstreams?

The IBT is watching!!

Doug,

Just an FYI, while speaking to Don (Region 2 Prez IBT) about the Region 2 Rally in 2009, he told me there's a good chance he will be joining us at CBR. As many of us know in the WDCU, Don always has a great time with us. He just doesn't know what to do with us! My guess, we could be making a stop by the "Golden Tap".

You are right!

You are correct! I just could not remember that, after stopping by it! If you know what I mean. The morning after always reminds me of Dr. Smith that played on "Lost in Space".

Clearly, we need a robot: "Danger Paul Waddell! Danger! Danger!" Flailing arms optional.

In other news, friends of friends report that all WDCU does all weekend is drink. Best laugh I've had in a long time.

Last time I checked the rally starts on Thursday, which is not officially part of the weekend... that would make the above statement totally untrue. I mix an adult beverage with in moments of pulling into my space so I drink during the week and all weekend.

I will say though that every hour is happy hour when your camping with the WDCU.

I have done further investigation as to a mini caravan through downtown DC.... I went to DC and drove all over the heart of the city, around all the mall, the monuments... and I can say for certain that there are zero sign banning any kind of anything downtown. The only restrictions were for hazardous cargo in the tunnel on 395 and no commercial trucks are allowed on K street in the center portion of the avenue. I tried a follow up with their MVA and was met with the same incompetence and stupidity that flourishes at the Maryland MVA. No one knew and no one knew who to ask. All this leads me to say I am going to drive my rig through downtown DC around 1:30 p.m. on April 9. We will be assembling in the parking lot at Mt Vernon after we take the tour. Anyone is welcome to come along. This is not a WBCCI event, it will have no affiliation to the club and everyone is welcome to join us. The caravan will end at the site of the Cherry Blossom Rally where it might fall under some WBCCI guidelines. I will be personally serving adult beverages to anyone that caravans with us after we all have arrived safely at the rally site.
