WDCU 2008 Installation Rally

2-5 October in Galena Park, North Norwich, NY 13814

The leaves should be peak and central NY with its rolling hills is a great place to visit in the fall. Cooperstown is a buzz this time of year with baseball playoffs happening, the fall harvest is occuring and the local area has alot to offer and they have a great Farmer's Museum there too. The Fly Creek Cider Mill near Cooperstown is our favorite. Hike the Finger Lakes Trail or the local Whappanauca / Brookfield State Land trails (over 100 miles of trails) - visit Roger Environmental Center in Sherburne 6 miles away - a state run game farm with trails and a observation tower - visit the auto museum in Norwich, go to the soccer hall of fame in Oneonta, or the boxing hall of fame in Canastota. There's a huge casino in Oneida or visit Oneida silver. Ithaca and Watkin's Glen and Howe's Caverns are all good day trips. Run up to Syracuse (45 miles away) and take a jaunt on the Erie Canal. We're gonna have a good old WDCU time!

Rob has been bouncing ideas and his plans off of me for a few days now, I and want to say he has an absolutely killer rally planned out. There is something for all ages and it promises to be a typical WDCU blowout. Yes there will be a few minutes of saber rattling, but if it is anything like last years installation, I think all will enjoy themselves tremendously. We have both been working on door prizes and they are going to be worth the trip alone. So far there are 29 rigs signed up, but we would like to get closer to 40 so a true wagon wheel can be accomplished. Sure hope some more sign up.

Hail to the Chief

Oh man, I wish I didn't have to work. One year I'll get to attend this
irreverantly fun formality.

This rally will be my first, since I had not found the WDCU years ago when I had my 1986 32 footer, and I just wasn't interested in camping with the local units. Last February I bought a 1961 Ambassador that I have been working on, trying to bring it back into shape and make camping-ready. It's not really in camping shape yet, but I should have the floor back in and the banana wraps back on by October, so at least it will be road ready. Some cots, sleeping bags, a throw rug, lantern, and I'll be there. I can't wait to camp with the people I have met so far, and I am looking forward to meeting everyone else.

I'm thinking about leaving my inner wall skins off so people can get an up close look at how an Airstream is put together, what c-channel actually looks like, etc. There may be somebody at the rally who is thinking about doing floor repairs, but is afraid of what they'll get into once they start tearing things apart. Seeing one half torn apart, in person, would have been a great learning tool for me before I started. Pictures on a web site can only convey so much information.

Lightbulb Just wondering

Would a party pump full of Bloody Marys be appropriate at a breakfast potluck?

It's up to the incoming Pres. to set the dress code for the installation ball. So Rob what's it to be this year?

This is in the same field as the band battle thang? We are giving it serious consideration, which I know somehow breaks the mood, but... . May just take the week and do some FingerLaking at the wineries.
