Campfires

Campfires are an important part of any camping trip and all our campers are welcome to enjoy a fire at their site. Campfires are also a leading cause of camping injuries and property damage so they are subject to special rules. Each site at Seven Maples is equipped with a steel fire ring. These fire rings may not be moved (state law). Fire rings may not be used for the disposal of garbage or trash. Fires
must be kept under 18" high
and firewood must be kept within the fire ring. At No Time may a campfire be left burning unattended. Fires must be put out before you go to bed each night and before you check out.

Depending on the current "Forest Fire Danger" rating as reported by the State Fire Marshal and displayed at the Hancock fire department, additional restrictions apply:

LOW - No restrictions
MODERATE - No Restrictions
HIGH - No new fires may be started after 10:00pm
VERY HIGH - All fires must be extinguished by 10:00pm
EXTREME - No Campfires are allowed

Route 202 to Seven Maples

Hello all,

Tex and I did a road check today. We wanted to let you all know that there is a small amont of construction on Route 202 between Peterborough and the campground. There is about 1 mile of dirt road where they are preparing to pave and another 1-2 miles of somewhat rough road. There are no big dips, just a little rough. We wanted you to know especially if you were towing your baby at night in the dark NH woods! No rougher than inside some campgrounds, but it might take you by surprise if driving at night.

One other item... When you turn onto the last leg of Longview drive coming into the campground area is a narrow one lane bridge.

We drove around the town of Hancock today since we will have only the motorhome next weekend. What a lovely picturesque town!

The campgrond is open and in full swing!

See you next weekend.

Kathy and Tex.

Calling all chefs…have you started heating up your grill yet? If you’d like to show us what you can do with a grill and a bag full of groceries, contact me prior to May 25 and let me know that you are interested in representing the NEU in the Tin Chef Cook-Off at the Region One Rally in August.

There has been quite a bit of interest in this Cook-off, so, to give everyone a chance, there will be an appetizer contest this month where each aspiring "Tin Chef" will have an opportunity to show off their culinary skills. I will choose two winners based on the results of the contest – one person to be the NEU “Tin Chef” and the second person to be the NEU sous chef. You may enter the contest individually or as a team of two people. Keep in mind if you enter as a team, your team can’t be split and you will be judged for the roles of “Tin Chef” and sous chef. The rules of the contest are simple – prepare an appetizer that uses cream cheese as one of its ingredients. Judging will be done on presentation, taste and originality. There are two ways to enter this contest:

1) Come to the Monadnock Rally at Seven Maples Campground and present your appetizer to the judges at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 27. Be sure to bring three copies of your appetizer recipe with you (one for each judge). Each contestant should plan on bringing their completed appetizer to happy hour at 4 p.m. Each contestant will be given up to five minutes to “present” their appetizer to the judges and the rally members and then will be asked a series of questions. Keep in mind, “presentation” consists of two parts – the first part is how the appetizer appears on its plate; the second part is the act that each contestant puts on to present their appetizer to the crowd. After all appetizers are “presented”, the judges will review the recipes, taste test the appetizers and score each entry based on presentation, taste and originality.

2) Request a mail ballot entry from me no later than Thursday, May 25. Please note that you may not use the mail ballot system if you attend the Monadnock Rally. If I don’t receive any mail ballot requests by 6 p.m. on May 25, the winners of the Tin Chef contest will be chosen and announced during the Monadnock Rally. As part of the mail ballot, you will be asked to include your recipe, a photograph of the finished appetizer, answers to a series of questions, and an essay of at least 300 words describing your act of presenting the appetizer. You may request a mail ballot by telephone, email or snail mail. Complete and submit the mail ballot entry to me by email or snail mail. Your ballot must be postmarked by June 15 to be eligible for the contest.

Send me a PM, if you would like more information or to let me know if you are interested in entering the contest.
All the aspiring tin chef's are awfully quiet these past few weeks! Everyone must be busy planning their appetizer entry. Don't forget the appetizer contest is this coming Saturday (May 27) starting at 4pm. Be sure to let me know in advance if you plan on participating! I'm looking forward to taste testing all the entries!

Wow, we've never been accused of being quiet. Susan has a secret recipe she is anxious to have a few victims uh no guinea pigs uh no taste testers, that's it, try.

Thanks for the info on the roads. Are you all set for the tin chef? I know you have some yummie recipes up your sleeve. I was thinking that carrot cake but may not be viewed as an appt. Oh well. See you both this weekend.

I looked, didn't see it on the map. But I'll be willing to bet when we get there on Friday we'll know as it will be the area with all the Airstreams in it.
