Sky Diving Rally 2010 - Cape cod

Cape Cod Unit is putting together a Skydiving Rally for first weekend in Aug 2010. Tandem jumps are 235, if we have ten or more, 215. Robinson R44 Helicopter rides 50 bucks.
Nightly Bonfire (15 Pallet's high) and BBQ with the Skydiving Club. nominal charge for water and limited electric NO CHARGE for no hookups!
Should be a BLAST. Met them recently, they were THRILLED to have Airstreamers (hey, airplanes without the wings) with them and onsite.
Let me ask you all, seeing we do not have enough power to run a/c's....would the first weekend in October be better? Personally I like to run the heat rather than the A/C and Bonfires are nicer in cooler weather?
Thoughts? Interest?
Thanks
Dan

Man I wish we lived CLOSER!

I haven't jumped out of a perfectly good airplane since I was active duty Army almost 15 years ago. That would be a hoot even if we were forced to do tandem jumps.

Sounds like an interesting time, just so you make sure no one aims for "the long shiny things below."

Ellington CT,
and no I was there, the Airstreams won't be that near the zone.
any more than a chance of a hailstorm.........?
I'd say we'll be parked 100ft from landing zone, and Airport, which was sadly lacking in activity, except for the jump planes

Dan,

How many members are USPA rated skydivers? I'm a USPA 'D' license holder. Let's do some RW at the rally.
Debbie doesn't jump and neither does Belle.

Dan,

United States Parachuting Association is the regulating organization for parachuting activities in the US. They also lobby for all things related to sky diving.

'D' License: The fourth and highest level or license issued by USPA. USPA D-license holders may participate in all competitions at the national level, apply when qualified for all USPA instructional , proficiency ratings, and participate in high-altitude jumps.

RW or Relative Work or Formation Flying:1: Aerial maneuvers by two or more freefalling skydivers with each other, usually to form geometric formations.
2: Competition discipline of flat-flying.

Say hi to Bob.

The Build-Up to the Dive!

Dan, we better make some temporary arrangements with the Region One and CCMU Treasuries if Trevor is going to "take a dive". This will be one fun time.

We've gotta have a back up plan for you too! That might mean a special election?

Lots of build up to the time of the jumps!

I am going to watch from a distance....on the ground.

Hey Dan.........You are "The Man"!

Skydiving Rally......WOW....Let Cape Cod Unit rock with thrill and adventure. Go guys.....this should be a lot of fun. I might have to enjoy from ground level. This is something I always wanted to do, but with a 14 year old daughter still at home, don't know if I'm ready to risk it.

Hey Dan
You are the Adventure Man. If we go I volunteer to take photos...from the ground.
But it sounds like fun. Thanks to Bob again for all he did while at the Region One Rally. It was fun.

Here's a new link to the skydive association at the airport. The old link appears broken.......
Connecticut Parachutists Inc, Skydive in Connecticut, Tandem, Accelerated Freefall, Come Make Your First Skydive in RI,MA,ME
I'm really hoping we get some good professional pics and at least get one published in the BB.......hopefully those sorts of things will boost our image to new possible members
guess that would be the ADVENTURE part of Fun Fellowship and Adventure

hopefully within the next few weeks we will have a flyer out for signing up for the Skydiving Rally. Right now we are limited to 10 sites, with limited electric and water. I'm working on getting some more sites, but they would be dry camping. Can I get a heads up on how many here think they will attend?
Thanks
Dan

Rivet I'm interested!

Have always wanted to do this! One Airstream, one jumper, three people.
Let us know when you firm up the dates

We often dry camp, no worries, though I would have to be able to run my genie for a few hours during the day (Honda 2000, fairly quiet). My batteries are not great, probably sat on the lot too long, trying to get one more season out of them.

Thanks!

Rally Update

sorry I'm late putting up the info. The rally is on but the parking space is still up in the air (no pun intended). When I went to confirm everthing a month or so ago, the new president of the skydiving association, told me they could not park more than on RV at a time there. The "neighbors" across the field have been complaing and trying to shut them down for years. (typical for Genneral Aviation Airports). They are afraid that with 10 RVs there, the people will call out the Sherriff and make a big ruckus
My bottom line backup is the Moose Lodge in Rockville, CT about 7 miles away, that's available for sure but tight parking......but you can walk over and be my guest at the "social quarters".
We were talking to the Town of Ellington about a field they use for various activites but I can't seem to get an answer. Can't believe I did not think of this until this morning, The Four Town Fairgrounds in Ellington, should be able to get 30amp and water there with no parking issues about 4 miles away.
I'd like to hear from those that are coming to get an approx count. I will post as soon as the site is confirmed, most likely if there is a parking charge (fairgrounds) you can just pay when you get there.
Please PM me here at Airforums so I can keep all the responses together for the count.
Thanks
Dan

ok we're all set, we are dry camping at the Four Town Fairgrounds, confirming price tomorrow, but I think about 10 bucks a night per trailer. only 3 miles away from Airport.
Also, fyi, within 1/2 mile of the airport are a large Harley Davidson Dealer and a Classic Car Showroom for your enjoyment. I'll confirm the price tomorrow and post.
also, the chicken roast at the jumpsite is 5 bucks a person, BYOB. I would like to give them a count a few days before so please let me know if your participating in the chicken roast, and if your jumping.
Thanks
Dan

unfortunately this years skydiving rally has been cancelled. Several people from out of state that were coming either are not or have not responded to me. The main cause, being the fact that we lost our parking at the site, had a hard time finding another one, and no sign up flyers being published.
Luckily I've found another much better site in Danielson CT for next year, also the tandem jump fee is only 185.00
