Guess If we are heading south to be with the "Vintage people" we will have to get a CB. And study up on the lingo.
Hunter Hampton had a funny story on her list. While being squeezed in between two tractor trailers on the Cross Bronx Expressway she overheard the truckers warning to "watch out for the Nursing Home" referring to her Airstream.
Being Hunter, she straightened them right out.
Sooo, 10-4, or 10-5, or over and out...
ps "do you have your ears on" = question to a fellow CBer asking if their CB is turned on
If it is not "ON" how can you hear the question?

The person asking the question will quickly know if your "ears are on" or not depending on whether or not you answer!
For example, I was traveling behind a fed-ex truck who had a retread that was almost ready to break loose. I got on the cb and asked if the north-bound fed-ex truck had his ears on. When he responded "yes", I then let him know about the retread. If he didn't answer me, I would have known that either his ears weren't on or he didn't want to talk.
I am told they are useful while caravanning. My only experience with them was with a friend moving his race cars and listening to truckers swear at each other. I was shocked!
M&M tryed to warn me about turning the wrong direction at the freeport rally but I could not hear them...
Cell phones would work if there is coverage, but then we would not be able to get the BIG ANTENNA! that comes with the CB. Then I would feel more at home at the Flyin' J Truck Stop.
I think I am talking myself into it.
We use a CB when we caravan with the NEU. We just keep it on the Wally Channel - 14 on the dial. It really increases the enjoyment of traveling with a group. We have one inside the trailer too. For rally communications (not that we have ever used it).

Now THAT is wicked funny! I will have to listen on channel 19 to hear if anyone is calling our Airstream a nursing home on wheels.

The truckers also have their own "lingo" which I find fun to learn. It helps to know what they are talking about. Some lingo examples are:
"4 wheeler" = automobile
"parking lot" = car carrier truck
"alligator" = retread tire in the road
"bear" or "smokey the bear" = trooper
"full blown bear" = trooper with his lights on
"bear taking pictures" = radar trap
"bear in the woods" = speed trap
"do you have your ears on" = question to a fellow CBer asking if their CB is turned on
They also call each other "Driver". I wonder what they call those of us driving "4 wheelers".

Hi Michelle,
Maybe you will remember this from the Salem International Rally. There is vintage and vintage People with a great sense of humor!
Yes I do remember this! You are right these folks have a fantastic sense of humor. Hey, I wonder where I can get one of those signs? I'd love to sneak out at night during a rally and place it in front of another rally attendees rig.....

The winner of the "East Coast VAC Rally" the Antique White drawing below. Just to let everyone one know, I'm working on shirts both in the "Antique White/On black shirts" and the "Blue Print/on white shirts".
But the "official" logo is the white. Below I'm post an image so it can be place on the forums left side links area. I had to resize it for this post.
Looks to be good time so far.

Hello Paul. I like the original graphic and your intention to make up t-shirts, etc. I do think compressing it makes it too difficult to read as a rally image for the portal page. Does working off an image like this next one make any sense?
Another thing that is not clear is whether this is a VAC-member-only rally or an open AIR Forums rally. Help me out there if you would. Thanks!

Other readers -- please hold off signing up for this rally at this point. Paul and I are working to get a rally link into the portal page left border rotation. That must be done before signups start. Thanks for your patience.

How open? non Vac WBCCI members, non vintage forum members, non members of VAC, WBCCI or forums with vintage, non members of VAC, WBCCI, or forums new Airstreams, WDCU non VAC, etc., etc., VAC but not vintage, vintage but not VAC, or SOB buddies? I think I forgot a some combinations.
