Thanks for the links Jerry, and great picture. That had to take some time.
Thanks also to everyone for pitching in for the dinner.
It looks like we're set for a fine meal Sat. We should have between 17-20 people.
One other thing I could use some help with is picture taking. I can do it, but my old digital camera is not really up to date. It would be nice to have a few pics to send to the club website. We don't have a photographer in the group do we?

I will have the digital camera along. Also, you have the General if he has not gone AWOL from the rally. Not going to drag the 8x20 along for a group shot.

Im here! (I think)

I think I am more or less at the rally area. How do I tell where it is? Lots of signs of people having camped about.

I spoke with Rodney, and it sounds like he's the first to arrive. I'll be joining him late Thursday evening. Since I don't have a laptop the only way to reach me will be through my cell phone. I think I've sent each of you a private message with this #. If anyone needs help in finding the location just call me, but it's unlikely that you'll be able to get a signal within 30 miles of Leadville until you get into town. One other small item that we could use if anyone has it is a portable fire grill. I have a small one that has fold out legs and I was going to buy a second one but neither Walmart, Target, nor Sports Authority had any in stock. We look forward to meeting everyone at the rally.

I can bring a 55 gal. fire barrel (cut in half length wise)
made for group campfires if you think we will use it.

All the 4wd passes around Leadville are snowed in.

There are no fire bans in the national forest, so campfires are ok. I'll bring some wood, hopefully others will too.

Weather for Leadville: Friday: 36˚ and 68˚. 20% chance of thunderstorms day, 10% night.
Sat.: 34˚ and 69˚, 10% chance of thunderstorms. Sun.: 33˚ and 74˚, 10% chance of thunderstorms.

I don't think we'll need the barrel, just a grate to grill on over the fire pit. I have the one small folding Coleman grate which we can use. Last year we had 2 of these that we put together. I think I can work with what I have if no one has a grate.
I'm heading up to the campsite in a about an hour. See everyone there.

Navagation help

Once you are on the gravel road stay on it until you reach the top of the hill (there is a Dept of the Interior Building there and a gated road to the dam on the right) go left past the gated road. The road immediately forks stay left and go down the hill. Ignore the branching side roads and stay on this road for about 1/2-3/4 mile. We are on the left. The road gets narrow and rough the last 500 yards or so, but keep at it.

Rodney,

Thanks for the detailed directions. Sounds kind of daunting to do at dusk. Is there any chance someone can put up some signs (arrows, whatever) to the site?

Give me a call and I will guide you in. Other wise, there are some arrows painted on the road in orange (someone must of had a bike ride or something) that are prefect. Except for the ditch road all roads are signed, and with the extra directions that is covered.

On edit: if you (or others coming in) need my cell #, send me an pvt message- I will be checking in off and on today.

If it gets too late, we'll probably find an RV park in Buena Vista or somewhere south and come in Sat. morning. We'll call Rodney or Charlie if we can make it, though the moon may light the way tonight.

Its a piece of cake! several turns but just pay attention at the intersections and go slow past the Dept of the Interior shed!
