Saturday night at Heron is: Dinner on your own-or leftovers-Group Pavilion.
If you would like to bring something to BBQ and a dish to pass we will have some small grills. Come and join us if that is what you enjoy.
See you in Heron in a few days now.

There is no such thing as a full rally! Keep em coming... I heard we only had about 18 units showing up.

Jan and I want you to know how much we are going to miss not being at this rally. I'm sure that Jim and Rod and Bob and Lou have put together a fun weekend for everyone.
With the Balloon Fiesta just 2 weeks after this, it was just not possible for us to attend. We are hoping that Jan can rid herself of the plastic boot she has been wearing for the past month in time for Albuquerque, but that is another story.
We would like everyone to have a great rally and safe travels. Please post many pictures for those of us who could not attend.

Heron Lake SP
A great big good 'ol ATTABOY for Jim and Rod along with Bob and Lou for putting on a wonderful rally in the pines. Even got the AS washed with the after potluck gully washer.

Heron Lake Rally
We would like to extend a hearty thanks to Jim and Rod for hosting, and for their hard work in making the rally a success!
We made it home yesterday around 3pm. We caravanned back with Julianne and a good time was had by all. Our route home took us south of ABQ on I-25 and West from Socorro on US 60 over to 260 through Show Low and Payson. This was a much better drive and route than the trip up to Heron. We did discover a gem of a campground called Datil Wells Campground approximately 80 miles west of Socorro. It is a US BLM campground. Dry camping only, but very nice, clean, they had clean pit toilets and water was available. There were even sites with covered tables. All for 5 bucks per night.. can't beat that. If we would have had our generator along, we might have spent an extra day there.
For the ones who wondered... we did get the canoe off of the car and we paddled on El Vado Lake with Doug and Sandy to spill way area for Heron Lake. If we would have been really motivated, we could have used it to get from the group pavillion to our trailer the night of the gully washer.

Tamara and I had a great time. It was a great Rally! Never seen so much aluminum at Heron in the decade or so that we have been going there. Hope that this becomes an annual event. See you guys at the balloon fiesta. The 4cu has the best rallies.

We got home this afternoon (Tues)...we stayed an extra day with about 5 other rigs... Stayed at Caballo Lake State Park on I-25 on the way home one night, then drove from Caballo to Silver City via 152 and then on to Lordsburg and home...nice route...
Lake Heron was beautiful and the folks attending were great...as always, great to see everyone...
Pics to follow when we have decompressed...
Can't wait till the next 4CU rally!

Needless to say, the Heron rally was great and if you missed it, you missed a lot of fun!
Here are a few pictures....
Starting with the welcome sign & Mike putting on a happy face, it's easy to see that we all had a great time.

The general looks way to serious for a 4CU rally. Everyone else looks to be having a blast.

Would have been nice to have been there. Sure is nice getting away with the kids. I'm ready to head back and finish my Deadhorse visit in a couple weeks.

Thanks to Bob and Lou as well.. I failed to mention you both in our last post. You both put in a lot of effort to make the rally a success. Lou, the Ice Cream was outstanding!!
Can't wait to see you both at Thanksgiving... I will remember the Ice Cream Freezer this time I promise.

The post rally wasn't so bad either—Rodney, Mike, Tracy and Sandy were still there. Very nice campground and maybe we'll come to all the 4CU rallies after they're over.

Back in Louisiana
Had a great time at the Rally. As some of you know I had police business in Texas on the way back, but we completely skipped that and modified our return trip. Made it across 64 to Taos and Cimmaron Canyon State Park for two days. Then we drove south to another state park near Carlsbad, Brantley (?) Lake SP, followed by a night in the Davis Mountains. After that we said "since we are in the neighborhood" we might as well scoot down to Big Bend National Park for a night, staying at cottonwoods campground.
Pat made me get up at 2AM to look at the Milky Way; about the brightest and clearest I have ever seen it.
Another interesting bit. We were the ONLY campers at Cottonwoods, had the entire campground to ourselves. The next morning, before leaving, I had a very informative and interesting discussion with a Ranger who said it was rare to have the entire campground empty except for one set of campers, that would be us in this case. Attached is a photo of us all by ourselves in Cottonwoods Campground at Big Bend
A note to bicycle fanatics....Big bend is a great place to do looooong rides this time of year, and the scenery is amazing. All the routes are clearly marked, and range from "easy" to "brutal". I had my mountain bike, but next time I am bringing my road bike for one of the longer loops.
Got tagged at the border checkpoint north of the Park. It was sort of strange being on the other end of a drug dog search, but Fido didn't alert on the airstream or truck so we went our merry way for the eternal trip eastbound across Texas.
To all our new New Mexico friends, we are going to try to come back in late October, this time to visit the western half of the state.

JD & Pat... It was great having you at the Heron Lake Rally and we very much look forward to having you back among us again as soon as you can get back... Your trip home seems like a great tour with lots of interesting places, and even some scouting for future trips...next time you gotta get to AZ, too!
See you down the road...

Well - the mugs are here and they look great. Folks at the Balloon Fiesta rally will get theirs this weekend and as soon as the shipping boxes get here I'll be sending out the rest.

Great news!! So how about the flags? Any word on them because I know a bunch of folks were hoping to be flying them proudly at the Balloon Fiesta? Plus, I'd just like to see how they came out.

Mug Update
They should be going out the first of next week. The mug company just sent me the packing boxes. I'm waiting to get the UPS shipper number from them and they'll be good to go! They look cool!
