Post We're going

Yep, you are right Gail. I'll send in my $$ tomorrow. I also need to make reservations at the campground in Littleton, NH for the NE Unit Express Caravan. Will do this tomorrow too.

Hey Gail,
Just made some final plans for that week and it looks like we'll be able to join the caravan up in New Hampshire earlier in the week. I'll get my $$ in the mail and will contact the caravan leader about our plans for joining them. Thanks for the reminder.

Trois-Rivières Region1 rally

Hi folks

This is a voice come from Trois-Rivières Québec. Region1 rally is coming very fast and we hope many members will attend to this rally. Don't wait and send your reservation soon.
There's not only olympic pool in the area but a lot of shopping too. A lot of things to do. Just a walk away for restaurant, shopping amusements, etc.

Keep in touch

Welcome to the forum.

What's the story on crossing into Canada. Any suggestions. I already know that firearms are a big no no.

Not true. I went in & out of the southern border of Canada this time last year with both my dog, 12Ga & more than ample ammunition. Although, I am not familiar with their policy with hand guns the shotgun instigated only a minor delay.

The dog rabies certificate was provided the border inspectors ... the first entry from US required bringing the shotgun into the inspection station, the serial number was recorded, a small fee was paid and we went on about our travels. They did provide me with paper work for the weapon that was used on other entry/exits.

I may recommend that you have your vet provide you with a 'Travel Health Certificate' (like the airlines require) for each of your animals just before you leave on your trip. I did not have one, and although not a problem for me, this may avoid a hassle with an uneducated inspector.

From what I have read we are only allowed to bring in 1.5 liters of wine (without paying duty). I'll be looking into finding a Sams Club or Walmart Super Center once we cross the Canadian border to stock up on our happy hour supplies.

I'm also wondering how the border crossing will go as we will be traveling with the NE Unit's Express Caravan (Both going into Canada and returning to the United States).

I doubt the border crossing experience will change because you are in a caravan. You and your vehicles are analyzed individually going over the border. I took part in a small caravan going to the Region One Rally in Lunenburg a few years back and some people had problems and some didn't. Some tips:

1) Know EXACTLY how much alcohol you have on board and be prepared to declare it.
2) Carry receipts for any expensive electronics.
3) Prepare in advance if you have pets (see the "pet" link I posted above).
4) Know EXACTLY what you have for fruits and vegetables and be prepared to declare it. This is more of a concern coming back into the US because the US is more strict. If you don't want to waste time in having your trailer inspected, then don't bring fruits or vegetables into the US from Canada. I'm not saying you won't get inspected, but it will reduce your chances of an inspection.
5) Stay in your vehicle unless you are asked to step out. This will minimize stress for the border people.
6) Declare all firearms.

That's all I can think of right now.

When we bought our Camper, last fall, we visited Canada on the way home from Ohio. We came back through Cornwall. We did get searched. They asked the routine questions. When and if they do an inspection of the interior, you are not allowed to accompany them.

Our Camper at that time was not registered in our name. We had a letter of agreement from the previous owner to use his plate. They never asked to see it. It took less than 20 minutes to get through.

One note, there was a group that was asked to pull over and be subjected to an inspection. They were furious! They also spent a long time there as a result of their attitude….

We'll be there, hope to join the NE Unit up in New Hampshire on Tuesday and head up to Canada with them. I'll have to work out the details with Pam on joining in with the caravan. We look forward to seeing you all.

Last I heard, Canada wasn't a dry country so I'm sure we'll be able to get all the happy hour supplies we need.
