Q4T3 - Thanksgiving in Quartzsite

ScrapIrony-2 is having some issues with posting, so I am copying his email to this thread...

It's time to get ready to sacrifice a few turkeys and imbibe in friendship, a few items of food, and a visit or two to the margiball and Bloody Mary tent...the rally is in a free area of Quartzsite(Roadrunner Campground), same place as last year. Bring what you can...firewood is a good thing, as are happy hour treats...as the weather is usually pretty cool, all-weather clothing is a good idea, as are extra tie-downs...poop-scoopers for the pets are a mandatory courtesy, and for those folks who get caught by the stargazing crowd(hey, Michael???!!!). The free area is good for 14 days, so come early and leave late...it does NOT have facilities... There are several RV parks in the area, a place called the Pit Stop that you can water up at, dump at, and propane up...several restaurants...some good, some really bad...fun places to visit, and a plethora of tent city flea markets...or, you can just hang with the 4CU homeboys around the camp.
A brief overview-there are 4 Long Term Visitation Areas...14 days-$40, Sept 15 to April 15-$180($0.85/night)...this allows you access to a dump station, water station, dumpsters, and pit toilets.
Jimmini has posted several observations and commentaries on the area.
This will be our 6th year to hit the desert, and hopefully not our last...if you haven't discovered desert living, it's worth the effort to check it out...let us know who's coming, an idea of what you might be bringing, and please...bring an attitude...4CU is the largest dysfunctional family in WBCCI, but we like it...join us...

I am thinking that this thread should be posted on the open forum to ensure we get maximum exposure to this rally.

What do y'all think?

I thought this was on the open forums, but if not, I also think it should be...it's not collective thinking, it's gathering, and that's the point...I really don't care if yer driving an SOB, I just want your friendship and company...ladies and gentlemen, drop yer drawers and slide on the ice!!!
Best MASH quote I can come up with...the rest is up to ya'll...m

FEAST ON!!! We'll save you a place and some food...have a particularly tasteful sipping rum for your appraisal...I know, I know...I'd never heard of "sipping" rum before, either...but that's what it is...(oh, did I mention it's distilled in Silverton...???)...nope, not outta a bathtub, and it has won several US awards, so far...if I don't drink it all on the trip, I'll save you a pop or two...m

Can't wait to try that! I like rum. And I may have a sip or two of Jamisons Red Breast for you. It is proof the Irish are the chosen people. The good Lord above would only give something this wonderful to his favorites.

So if anyone sees Mike and I falling out of our lawn chairs. Don't panic. We're just doing research.

We are really looking forward to seeing all of you again. It's been too long.

Any Early Arrivals to Quartzsite

Gail and I are in the middle of our long delayed Southern Holiday which caused us to miss the Balloon Fiesta this year. Left September 27 headed east and a short visit with her mom on the coast in NC. Then headed south on Oct 10 to meet friends in Charleston, SC and on the road ever since, Savannah, Disney World, Key West, Everglades and now headed for New Orleans (with a short detour to get pictures of the Airstream Ranch at Bates RV) and then Big Bend National Park in TX. We expect to be headed west through Quartzsite about Nov 14th, attend a SNU rally in Death Valley at Mesquite Spring Campground near Scottys Castle, be home for Thanksgiving with family and then back to Quartzsite for the FCU's. Hope to bring one or two SNU members to Quartzsite also.

We aren't sure exactly on the date, it could be a day or to sooner or later but will anyone be at Quartzsite near the 14th that we could camp overnight or a day or so with on our way through?

Mr Moto...good to hear from you...we are trying to get out of Silverton in the next 2-3 days...will take a leisurely week to get to Tucson, then Q-town...hopefully, we will be ready to entertain before the 14th...never know what the highway will do to us, but that's part of the allure...see you folks soon...mike

You folks have no idea how envious we are of your ability to head to Q, and the New Years bash, while we are at home watching the world get dark early at night, light late in the mornings, and sweaters are the common warm day dress code.

Thanks Milo. Our buddies, King O D Road, will be down for the New Years get together, and we'll join them for the gathering at Dead Horse.

I'd be heading down there right now excepting for appointments that can't be changed. Last one is Jan 19 and on the 20th we will be facing south, weather permitting. We are very excited to finally get some time away. A great test of Donna's towing skills. Oh yeah, and she says her skills at ignoring sage driving advice come from the passenger side .

Still sorting out the best route to take and snow will be a big factor in the decision. Either I-5 to CA and then east if the roads are clear, or 101 down the coast till we run out of snow, then head east. Will be using the truck this time given potential weather issues - don't want to beat the wagon to death.

Have fun in Q.

Great to hear you finally have heading south in your future. My pro tip is take the shortest easiest route to below the snow line.

As said before. We have a "courtesy camping" space for you in the yard if you're passing by.

Thanks for the comments. We are excited. The wait is going to be even more difficult know our buds are already down there, away from the winter weather, partaking of good times, and enjoying the scenery.

Oh well, we will get there. And if there is snow we'll either wait it out or figure out a way around it, and if nothing else, we'll plow our way through.

I hate to wish even a day of my life away, but late January can't come a moment too soon.
