'Our Nation's Capital Rally' - Washington DC

Washington, DC “Our Nations Capital” Rally

June 20th-26th

Cherry Hill Park Campground
9800 Cherry Hill Road
College Park, MD 20740

Cost:$51.30/night-$4.50/child

Come join the fun touring around the Nations Capital! Relax at one of the finest campgrounds in the country. Enjoy the convenient shuttle bus service from the campground to the Metro (commuter train), which brings you right into the city. It’s a great place with so much to see!

There are many frees tours to attend in Washington, DC. We plan to take the NEU group on the “White House” tour (for those interested), and would like to get a head count. We will need your personal data for those planning to go to the White House.
Please see the above attachment.

Additionally, daily bus tours to various locations are available (very popular), from the campground on the Gray Line (Bus Company). They provide a daily courtesy pickup at the campground. It is our understanding that the bus will drop you off at various locations throughout DC, and return you back to the campground. Prices vary depending on the length of tour that you select. You can make all the arrangements at the Campground Office at your time of arrival. No advance reservations are required.

Titu and I will be taking the subway to Arlington, The Mall, various museums, driving to the National Air & Space Museum, and also we plan on going to Mt. Vernon (George Washington’s home in Virginia. You are welcome to join us on any of these trips. Please note we have not determined the time yet, as decisions will be based on the weather and other factors.

The Federal sites are FREE of charge. Below is a brief list of some of the major attractions.
·The Bureau of Engraving & Printing
·The Capitol Building
·The Kennedy Center
·The Library of Congress
·The Pentagon
·The United States Supreme Court
·The White House (6 months notice required)

All Smithsonian museums have free admission. Here are 5 of the 15 Smithsonian museums, which includes the zoo.
Other Popular Attractions

Please send your COUPON & CHECK by February 28th, as the campground is holding an area for NEU and they would like a financial commitment by that date. I will be sending one check on behalf of NEU to the campground on February 28th. Folks can still sign up after that date, but might not be able to park next to the group.

Campground Amenities:
·30 or 50 amp service, with water, sewer & electric hookups
·Clean restrooms with hot showers, carpeted laundry room (19 washers, 20 dryers)
·Propane refills, firewood & camping store (groceries, memorabilia & maps, etc)
·2 beautiful lighted swimming pools with life guards

Look forward to having you join us!
Gail & Titu

Make it a rally week! Spend time in Washington, DC, then head to Wally Byam's Birthday Bash.

Too much FUN in one week is good for the heart!

Hope you can attend!

Dog walking/doggy daycare

Hi All,

Below is an email from someone attending the rally.

Hi Gail,
Thanks for the information. I did contact the campground and they informed me that they have a dog walker who will walk your dog and feed them for $10.00 per walk/visit. The campground had no info on any dog daycare facilities near by but when searching on the web I found an entire page of info for the College Park area. None appear to be right in College Park but I spoke with someone from Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital and Resort, which is 15-20 min. from College Park. As the time gets nearer and we can identify the date for the White House tour and such, perhaps travelers with dogs can connect and we can try to work together to transport and help each other with our canine family members. You can have people interested contact me and I will forward info or speak with them about options.

We will be sending you our info tomorrow.
Thanks again,
Paulette and Jerry

Hope this helps for those with dogs. If you have further questions, I can direct you to Paulette.

Please contact me ASAP if you are interested in attending, as we are already at the 6 month mark, and I need to get folks names in who want to tour the White House. A six months advance notice is required.

Thanks,
Gail

Regrets

Titu & Gail, Looks like a great plan you've put together. Sandy and I would love to go but we are already signed up for the Region 1 caravan to Gillette, Wyoming. Our caravan leaves Danbury , CT on June 1st. and arrives in Wyoming on June 24th. with early international Rally parking on June 25th. The rally ends July 4th. We survived about 12 days of windy cold days here at Land Yacht Harbor in Melbourne, FL. We had several mornings at or below freezing with two mornings down to 28 degrees. Grass is all brown but is starting to green up again. Stay warm. Charlie & Sandy

Myboyburt & hubby are leading The Express Caravan to Washington DC. She wants to see who is attending, then she will plan accordingly where the group will be stopping on Saturday night June 19th.

Registrations are only starting to trickle in..........hope to get an understanding of the head count shortly, as I have to send the names in ASAP to get on the White House tour.

Gail

Page and I will be glad to join you as well. We will likely arrive on Sunday and depart Thursday - so we can arrive at the WBBB in time for cocktail hour.

We will be going on myboyburt's Washington DC Express Caravan on Saturday June 19th. The stopping location on Saturday has TBD once she gets an understanding who is attending the rally.

For all those who want to go on the White House tour, please let me know ASAP as I'd like to send the names to my US Senator by the end of this week.

Thanks,
Gail

That is the week after our wedding, or I'd try to talk Erica into it. We live near there (and were just in that area yesterday to pick up the camper.)

Will you be doing this rally in 2011? We would love to attend, but work gets in the way this year.

Hi Minni's Mate,

I don't think so. We'll be looking for a new location for a week long rally in 2011 as we like to explore new regions / attractions.

Confirmed 21 folks attending the White House tour. Just sent in the request.

Total rig count is 13. Expect the number to increase when the weather gets everyone in the streamin' mood.
