Midwinter IBT Rally

It will be January 10-14 at Haven's Landing RV Resort in Montgomery, Texas, 45 miles NW of Houston. Haven's Landing is a top-rated RV park with wi-fi available. This is a great chance to find out what is brewing in WBCCI.

See the Region 9 website for details. There will be some great entertainment and optional tours. Full hookups are only $19 a night for this event and the rally fee is only $55/person for 3 breakfasts, 2 dinners, and 3 nights of exceptionally good entertainment.

Great rally

I'm posting this via Wi-fi from the rally. We have had wonderful weather so far ... 3 days of T-shirt weather, a short night rain, and a cold, clear night and morning.

So far, we have had one night of wonderful entertainment and one night of fair entertainment, terrific meals, and good fellowship. Tonight is the banquet and some promising entertainment and home in the morning.

There has been a lot of discussion pertaining remaming the club. The most promising approach seems to be to retain the corporate designation of WBCCI in order to save as much as $100,000 that it would cost to make a change. An additional ring would be then be added to the logo with a title such as "Airstream Owners Association?. They are voting this morning on the amendments.

Some good news is that the membership drain has slowed to a virtual stop in the last 6 months for the first time in years and there is a ope for an actual increase in the enar future.

Interesting since their web site has the following title on the home page.

Welcome to the Wally Byam Caravan Club International,
the Airstream RV Association.

True. But there is no provision in the Constitution or bylaws to call the club anything except WBCCI. The logo, which hasn't changed in years never mentions Airstream. Mention of Airstream on letterheads, etc. has happened all along, but as an ad hoc thing.

The member questionaire lastyear was 71% in favor of making the Airstream name predominant in the public image. Unfortunately, the board is like all committees and spent hours making a simple matter complicated. You wouldn't believe the motions, amendments, and points of order this afternoon. What occurred today is just a recommendation for the delegates that will vote at the International. The board finally voted to recommend a change to the membership.

As far as I can see, the only real hit is in making flags and stock of decals, etc. obsolete. That can be handled by grndfathering existing material, especially flags.

Was anything else decided, or did they just waste their and our money for another non-productive meeting?

I think that it was very productive. Over the course of a year, units or individuals submit dozens of amendments to be voted on by the delegates at the meeting immediately preceding the International Rally. This meeting was a pre-screening of these amendments; many of them conflict with others or with existing by-laws or constitution. I was impressed with the thoroghness with which these items were researched and discussed. No way that all of this work could be completed in the few days of the International meeting.

By the way

We had over 160 Airstreams and well over 300 people at the rally (some drive-in, some in cottages or motels). This was the highest attended IBT in a number of years.

Tuesday and Wednesday were open forum days where anyone could speak. friday was the formal IBT meeting. Larry Huttle is on the board and he flew in for the formal meeting on Friday.
