Labor Day Weekend Rally - FCU
The Four Corners Unit is planning a Labor Day weekend rally at the Meteor Crater RV campground between Flagstaff and Winslow. Check out their website ( Meteor Crater - Home). I've never been to this spot but it sounds very interesting, plus Flagstaff or Winslow are a short drive away. The campground has full hook-ups and most are pull-through spots. The cost per night is $24.92 with my AAA discount which will apply to everyone coming with the 4CU. We'll have a pot luck on Saturday and the margi-ball will be in attendance too.
If you're suffering from the heat like the fellow mid-Arizona folks, then this should provide some relief. Plus its time for another get together to celebrate our recently approved charter.
I have 15 spots on reserve status with the park and would like to know who is interested in this rally so I can get back with them in the near future. Be great to see old friends and make new ones as well. AZflycaster and myself have already committed. Who will be joining us?
Brad

Do I need to send you or them some money at this time? How is that going to work?
Yes, we will have a fully loaded, fully funcional M-Ball.

Brad,
Sounds like a terrific rally location. We're trying to get to our new hometown in AZ as quickly as possible. Obligatory visits enroute from CA in IL, MA, and CO might delay our arrival beyond Labor Day. If not, we'd love to attend.
As our trip progresses, I hope that we can get one of those reserved slots. If these are taken, might others in the campground be available? Sorry for the impossible question, so we'll play it by ear for a while.
PS You might want to edit the campground link because the trailing parentheses is included, which thwarts linking.

Thanks for the heads up Mike. I fixed the link. Sure hope you guys can make it. When do you anticipate being set up in AZ?

Brad,
Our plan is to visit family and friends on a swing East starting July 20th. We hope to be in AZ in September to begin the process of selecting major items in our yet-to-be-built home in Pebble Creek, Goodyear. Once we chose items like flooring, cabinetry, and finishes, we will then sign the contract to begin construction. Depending upon how long that might take, we will either live in the Airstream or rent a furnished house or apartment. I think we will travel a bit before renting. The Fall is a nice time to revisit the Southern Utah National Parks and there will be a few rallies to attend including the October rally at Lake San Antonio in CA. We're looking forward to being nomads for a while, but are also excited about settling down in AZ for new adventures.

Let's see now. That area seems like such a wasteland, but actually there are all sorts of things out there. Offhand, I'd suggest Homolovi Ruins State Park (if you're into Native American stuff like we are) and La Pasada, the train station in Winslow designed by Mary Jane Coulter for Fred Harvey. (Coulter also did several of the other well-known buildings in the southwest, including much of the infrastructure at the south rim of the Grand Canyon. An absolutely fascinating woman!)

We've stayed in the Howard Hughes suite at LaPasada and had a really great time. The hotel is being refurbished since it was taken over by the railroad and converted into offices for the southwestern hub of the railroad. Its slowly coming back to the original style including some of the original furnishings and furniture. We love the history of the place and the SW/Native American style of Mary Elizabeth Coulter. We've also visited some of her places on the south rim and want to go back to see the rest. Indeed, a fascinating woman.

With a Subway on site....
...we'll have to find a way to come now. Rosemary is fond on Subway and has an uncanny ability to sense when there is one within a mile or two!!

Nice views, great idea
We stayed at Meteor Crater RV last year and the sunrise was spectacular. It is a bit close to the Hiway (I40) but other than that, it would be a fun place for a rally.
Brad, maybe you can get the park to set aside spaces away from the Hiway for the group, I think that would be the south end, closest to the Crater. Is it on the rally calendar yet, or are you just testing the water?

We're on the rally calendar although i'm the only one showing as going at the moment. Not having been there before, I appreciate the input about the location of our spaces within the campground. I'll contact them early next week and put in our request. I hope to be able to give them an idea of how many spaces at that time too. Are you going to be joining us John?

I'll know more about payment once I call them next week. Stay tuned.

I will check with the leader to see if it is within our grasp. I sure would like to join the party.

Alright Mike. Be good to meet you finally. Welcome aboard. You'll see, we're a laidback bunch with not much formality and rules. Just good camping fun.
BTW - Add your name to the list here. http://www.airforums.com/forums/cale...-31;&e=358&c=1

We've stayed there and thoroughly enjoyed the crater tour. It is wide open country and I remember the campground getting pretty windy when we were there. I don't recall that I-40 noise was that bad. I will have to check with Mrs. Silverback to see if we can make this one.
