Great time

We just got home in Las Cruces.... trailerless! We heard such good things about Oasis in Tucson, that we left it there for service. Thanks for the tip. It certainly is a modest (I'm being kind) place.

Pat and I really had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone. The food and fellowship was great, as was the advice from those that know a lot more about this "sport" than we do. This was our first "boondocking" experience. No problems. Pat relaxed after she found out we had a 50+ gallon water tank and not 20!

Attached is a photo I took from the hill to the north of the campgound. I hope it goes through OK.

In order to insure that Kevbo makes it to any rally....all ralliers must chant "KEVBO..KEVBO..KEVBO..KEVBO..KEVBO..five times repeated daily (at 5:00 PM) for two weeks prior to the first official day of the rally. It has worked for us every time, well almost. The one exception was when Goin Camping forgot to chant on the third day prior to the rally, and so, the Malibu group suffered, and the FCU rally became famous.

Kevbo makes the rally real.

Smile Thank You FCU

Richard and Jan

We wanted to thank you and the all of the FCU folks. We enjoyed seeing all the different trailers and hearing all the experiences everyone has had.

I am so pleased that our first rally went so well - congradulations to Richard and Jan and everyone else who made it so successful - we promise to have lots more. For those who did not make it, you will see a full write up in our units newsletter - we plan to do "Rally Reports" so all our unit members and associate members can read about what they missed

and the winner is

(btw, yes on the peeps per the preceding post)

Brad! (flyfshr) winner of Best Of... and Oldest (Airstream).

Here's a few shots of the very impressive '59 Tradewind that Brad has crafted. The Juno track lights (12 volts) are particularly nifty, in that they can be snapped in and out easily--you see the blue mood light hanging down over the dinnette. When Brad is less amerous, he replaces it witha reading spotlight... Ooh, I do love the mahogany and the total retro look.

Here's Blu_Hwy_Lady's wonderful retro look and very appealing bright burnt sienna paint job. The turquoise cushions go so well with the interior colors. I like the dinnette in the middle and the open space. Susan is very happy with her decision to remove the partitions.

Who wins the Airstream book? Why it's Argosy Mike, of course. Irony, irony, irony. So we made him try to explain this to Kevin....who is paying attention to managing his "liquid bread". Wearing the shirt of all shirts, I might add.

No rally is complete without a little guy chat, probably about aluminum, or maybe recalling that they used to talk about, um, their devotion to the loves of their life...no, maybe Kevbo is talking about Lightning or, could it be, peeps? Kev, how's that breakfast bread you've got in your right hand? Doesn't look like it would make good toast, even though it's breakfast time.

Panoply of weather - WITH PEEPS!

Left Cottonwood at 10:30 yesterday and about 15 miles south of Flagstaff it started to SNOW. Not kidding around snow!! Covered the road over many stretches.... Temps around freezing - all that after a balmy 56 when we left DHRSP.

Oh well... we push on through. On the downslope east of Flagstaff it was back into the 60's. A panoply of weather. Home by 5:30. Had the 'monster' unloaded by 6pm - easy when it's only me and Max.

He IS the maximum cool traveller. Those of you that have met him, know of what I speak. He loves looking out the window and pointing out intertesting geological formations (while I'm trying to see the road markings!!!), then there are the trains, the clouds, the trucks, and .... well, you get the idea.

By the way, I had to call the cops this morning at 3am... the 5 peeps that rode home with us got into the to-kil-ya and found a deck of cards. Everyone knows that pics of the dogs playing poker - well this was FACED Peeps.... Peeps gone wild!!! Still cleaning up feathers. The cops asked where the peeps came from - I told 'em.

Now they are looking for a 7 foot tall, cowboy beer drinking, western wear sportin', eucalyptus burnin', bauxite haulin', heck of a nice guy. But they seemed perturbed, so you might want to stay out west for a while. Just a thought.

Richard & Jan - THANKS for all you did for me, Max and everyone!!! Had a BLAST! Also a BIG shout out to all the others that organized, welcomed, cooked, brought wood, chairs and generators. My humble thanks.

LONG LIVE THE 4CU!!!!

Axel

The Dead Horse Convention That Would'nt Die...

fellow convention peeps...

i love a good observation...

i do it all the time...

now if say your going to a convention, or a rally, either one... i'd hope the folks attending were cool. well... guess what breaks out? (no not the rash part) bauxite love. like EVERY RIG. in HUGE amounts. and personalities, BIG ones, like everybody... so much so, that half the convention stayed an extra day, turned themselves into a rally; really. i've never seen that happen B4, ever, and i've been to like three rallies. is it the water in the south west? the organic home grown fire wood? someone tell me...

so anyway...

i really liked the activites...

happy hours
pot lucking (including pizza, that was perfect!)
small earth friendly camp fires (and they can be sooooo.... informative, i just love good info; like: interspecies humanity and a man (rich, i'm writing the script for clerks III now) wrestling tips, tuna and fedex, all kinds of things, i could go on like forever, yak, yak, yak...)
laser show
ta-kill-ya from small bottles
the corn thingie game
trade that recipe
decorating idea stealing seminar
fashion shows
looking thru a big tube, up, really up, at bright things...
to many to list here________ .

tours: dive cowboy bars, upscale cowboy bars, saloons, feed stores, ant-i-Qing, jail, gun store, the motel w/ my name written all over it, trailer open house, cure tour, all sorts of interesting stuff...

going out to dinner w/ the gang, sitting at the bar watching bull riding... yak, yak, yaking...

going to jerome (stop now).

taking drives, drinking, shooting the windows out of old mine buildings w/ the .44 cal handguns... (we had 14 on this event alone. do you have any idea how expensive ammo is for a .44? a big shout out to "Smoke n Guns" for there sponsorship of this event!!!)

the looting. what a hoot!!!

so anyway, i'm still roaming around the west... against my will. i gota feed store and a saloon to visit...

and always remember,

Peeps Are For Keeps,

Kevin

More Cottonwood Rally Photos

My Airstream was loaded and ready to leave the snow behind and head for Cottonwood, AZ.

Here are my pictures at the Rally.

Thanks to Richard and Jan for organizing this event.

We had a nice happy hour and pot luck with better contributions than the last unit that I was associated with.

There was a lot of unstructured time for doing your own thing.

The venue was good with just the FCU folks at the group site.
Sedona and Jerome were nice nearby sightseeing destinations.
The campfires every evening were great and the star gazing with the huge telescope was an added bonus.

Looks like the FCU is off to a good start!

Concise...

i love the word concise...

it appeals to me... on different levels...

but i'm neither (concise or appealing)...

it i were to say; add:

a drop of water
a pound of bauxite

and (rustling around looking for ...)

the word does'nt come to mind...

but it's big... really big...

you could take post #598 and turn it into post #597.

but that's just me...

on another note...

i'm looking for the "small" children recipe. i'm hungry... anyone?
