The way I see it, were gonna' be somewhere in New Mexico. There's gonna' be a bunch of balloons. There's gonna be a lot of Airstreams and alot of Airstream owners. Does it get any better than that? We'll figure it all out when we get there....or not. A good time no matter what. Ron

It's funny that I forgot it, because some of it is right here with me now. But then, the M-ball is a given.

Differences Between Gas Balloons and Hot Air Balloons

Most of your attention has been focused on the 700+ hot air balloons that are the major event.

However, the annual America's Challenge helium/hyrogen Gas Balloon Race is also scheduled for 6pm Sat. Oct. 6 weather permitting. They will launch sequentially from the balloon field accompanied by the national anthems of the country that the balloons are from.

Where as a hot air balloon may fly for one or two hours, a gas balloon may fly for 2 or 3 days and fly from ABQ to the east coast! At high altitudes they may reach speeds of 50+ miles an hour. Not bad for a big bag of gas and no motor!

Their live progress can be tracked on a map via your PC by visiting
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
This page currently shows last year's results but should be updated when this year's race starts. (Bring your laptop)

This web site explains the differences between the two types of balloons.

Mr dorkster,
That figures out to about 18.4 miles per gallon, which ain't too bad if yer towing...I was looking at your packing list and didn't see a plastic tub...please(oh, please) tell me you haven't forgotten the keg kooler thingie, or, if you have, let me know so I can make alternate arrangements...like, maybe, drink the keg before it warms up...may be late to camping world, if so...
Don't let them launch the balloons without us

mr. irony,

must be the plant fumes, and trying to take short cuts, by not creating a correct Gas Fiesta Packing Liast.

find picture below.

i have a blue beer tub, however my goat ate the rope handles.

a) the tub will work w/o handles

or

b) i could install new rope as handles

or

c) purchase a new tub

or

d) i bring a beer tub w/ or w/o handles, and we BBQ the goat, whilst drinking beer together, but not together...

your choice...

dorkster

Where is the goat?

Drank too much beer and passed out in the tub?

Perhaps s/he ran away at the mention of the word "barbeque"?

Run goat, run!
