what gate do we go in to get inside?

It should be pretty easy to just follow the thousands of others all headed onto the launch field.

Pictures from crewing this morning

Here are a series of pictures I snapped while crewing this morning for a local
pilot wanting to practice before the balloon fiesta.

Tarps are spread to keep the balloon clean.
Testing the burner. Blue part of flame not visable against blue sky.
Start of the cold inflate from the fan.
Cold inflate progessing.
Hot inflation complete.
Flying
Down in the sage.
Balloon packed into stuff sack.
Toasting two new flyers.

I'm still not clear on just where exactly where we're camping. I've attached a couple of overhead shots from Google Earth and MSN maps and in both of these shots it looks like a barren dirt lot. At least we're not camping in the cemetary.

Brad.

Looking at your Google overhead and trying to match Ricards map, it appears that we are camping in the lower left hand corner of your photo.

Map

This hopefully will help - we are in the lower right "VIP west camping" part of the map - actually what Brad shows may be it - I wonder how old that picture is - unless they tore it up in the past year, I remember it to be a nice area - I'm out of town this week - I'll try to get over there next week and check it out.

You can also see on this map where the enterence is.

Now that I look at this you may be right - if thats the case that building on the bottom of the picture is the museum - I also know there is a nice parking area in front - more to the bottom - of the museum. So again I think this is somwhat an older picture - also looks like winter unless the green grass does not show up - the grass is pretty lush and nice.

I know where camping world is, and I'll follow the airstream in front of me and hope the one behind me does the same...at the least, we can all be lost together...if we miss the balloonfest, i have a flamingo-lifting balloon we can all look at and admire around the happy hour libations.
I'm gonna try to ask what I think everyone has been asking- IS THERE A GATE TO HAVE TO WALK TO BECAUSE THE LIFT-OFF GROUNDS ARE FENCED? Can the fence be scaled? Should I bring wirecutters, or just throw myself on the wire so all of you can walk across my back?(you can leave the margiball with me)...............mike

On the overhead, the red roofed building is Garduno's on the Green, if that helps.

The way I see it, were gonna' be somewhere in New Mexico. There's gonna' be a bunch of balloons. There's gonna be a lot of Airstreams and alot of Airstream owners. Does it get any better than that? We'll figure it all out when we get there....or not. A good time no matter what. Ron

Scrap - yes there is a fence - but if its a ball (I've not seen this thing yet) - can't we just play catch with it and...... oooooops it went over the fence?

mr irony,

sorry for the belated reply to your very wise observations...

no need to risk body n limb... it would seem we were trained at the same camp at different Times... Str8 to the point, don't wanna be Bamming around in the dark when were Goin Camping, i just looked in the barn and i have the 4 foot universal "KEY" in stock. see picture below. i threw in a goat 'n llama in the pic to throw off the feds. it's the four foot red handled type w/ titanium head... the corp donanted it to me upon retirement... it comes in handy when one doesn't know where the gate is AND must have a margi ball (for religious purposes) in attendance...

just sayin...

It's funny that I forgot it, because some of it is right here with me now. But then, the M-ball is a given.

where we're camping

Brad,
The Balloon Museum is the building at the bottom edge of your picture. I stood in front of the Balloon Museum and took this picture in 2005 looking North over the RVs and the launch field in the background.
