Ken----Let's cater at least one evening meal. Mexican cuisine is fine. We rarely spend time preparing hot meals in our unit. Grilling is fine, campfire hot dogs are fine. Are we going to be allowed campfires in this venue?

Will get some numbers on the catering and see what it would cost, then we can all decide what to do.

I doubt they will allow fires...does anyone have one of those propane camp fires?

Kev

I agree on over planning - I think for now we should keep throwing ideas out, and see which ones stick.

I've seen those fire thingys too, just don't have one....

I know that azflycaster (Richard and Jan) has one. After we saw his, we got one. There will be at least two there. Ron

Carnival

There is a lot happening on the grounds other than balloons. All kinds of venders including food venders. It's sort of a carnival amosphere - lots of people watching

More about food

Other than the traditional potluck which is always fun, the rally meals where everyone makes and brings their own and then we all sit down and eat together seems to work well. That way no one needs to stress about coordinating a whole big event and we can get down to the really important stuff like eating and drinking too much.

Spontaneous outings to go out for dinner are good too. I like to sample the local fare. Will it be difficult to come and go?

Debra (Babeebloos) has a fire dancer too.

(So does Uwe but I'm not sure if he is coming)

That's at least three fires to cozy up to.

out for dinner

If you want to go out for dinner, you should plan to drive miles away from the fiesta if you want to avoid long restaurant wait times.

Leaving and entering the fiesta grounds will be difficult from about 6AM to 10AM and again from about 6PM to 10PM. This is because most events occur around sunrise and again around sunset. However, it will be relatively easy to drive in and out at lunch time.

We have a fire dancer as well. Do you suppose that if we all lit them inside a picnic tent we could join the flight?

Probably couldn't carry enough beer to make it worthwhile, though.

hi ken and other wagonmasters...

only 2 months 2 go and getting excited.

finally got around to exploring the official balloooon fiesta website,

so now some questions...

1. dogs

the faqs say "no dogs in fiesta park"...

aren't we boondocking IN fiesta park?

i certainly understand keeping our flea bit friends out of these BIG public events, but...

has anyone sorted out this issue?

there must be several planning to arrive with a pooch or 2?

2. arrival

i get the feeling 'groups' are expected to arrive together and parked on a first come/first served basis...

so where we land could depend some on when we arrive?

there was some exchange on gathering friday am off site and rolling in together...

has this issue been settled? as in where the group will meet, and at what time the group will move?

while there aren't any events on friday, i suspect just getting into the park and settled is an event

cheers

convenient overnight stop

For the majority of the attendees, whom are arriving from the west, this RV park may be a convenient overnight stop and a place to dump and fill up before boondocking at the balloon field.

Enchanted Trails Camping Resort

Ken J may be able to recommend a location convenient for eastern arrivals.

If we were organized, we could exchange cell phone numbers so we could coordinate the arrival time at the balloon field.

The group from the west has picked a site (many posts ago) for Thursday night. We will be staying at the KOA in Grants. We will be rolling towards the site together Friday morning. We do need a location near the fiesta to meet up with the rest of the crowd.
