strongly recommended that you arrive prior to 3:00 PM

  • The nights of Monday through Thursday before the Fiesta are half price nights.
  • Check-in hours after Friday are 12:00 noon to 7:00 PM. It is strongly recommended that you arrive prior to 3:00 PM on days other than Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday to avoid heavy traffic congestion
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

The traffic from about noon to 3pm is lighter than at other times because most events are planned for around dawn or around sunset.

Rich - we are staying on the north side of Almeda - so we are ok - we are not on the landfill which is just a big dust bowl. Also, I think that article explains the sudden sell out.

We should probably plan to check in as early as possible - I think we can avoid any traffic problems.

Just heard on the radio that the city of Albuquerque is going to get the elec problems fixed by Oct - probably will use generators - again, this does not effect us - I'm going to see if this opens up some spots for us - I have two units on a waiting list for our rally

You just got the last space!

The rest of us coming from afar need to start looking for a spot for the night before our entry to the fiesta RV parking. Since it looks as though the group is going to try and gather sometime Friday morning to caravan into the Ballon Fiesta RV parking area, the out of towners need to stay somewhere Thurday night not too far from the appointed gathering spot. For us Cal folk, that would somewhere not too far west of the city. Since we are boondocking at the Fiesta parking, we should stay at a full hook up location the night before to dump and prep for the 4 days of life support.

There is a new KOA in Grants NM - a couple of hours west of Albuq - that might work for you. The other one I would try is Enchanted Trails - right across the street from American and next to Camping World.

I think there is some camping at Route 66 Casino just west of Albuq - but not sure about that. You could stop by and pick up some money for the fiesta

How early do you plan to get tto the fiesta? I think the gates do not open untill noon. There are no events at the site on Friday. I would think early Friday afternoon would be fine. I will most likely be spending the night some where between Flagstaff and Winslow. Many California folks will be in Williams. I don't think we need to be at the gate hours before it opens......

Good info

Ken,

Thanks a bunch, I will give a look see at your recommendations and check availability and report back on the thread for others. I know you havn't picked a final gathering spot yet, but do you have an approximate time on Friday? Does noon sound good? That will help us figure out how far out of town we can stay and still make it in on time for an entry caravan.

My thinking is we all meet somewhere just before noon - maybe late breakfast/brunch or early lunch - then we could all go together early afternoon - as Richard says - there are no activities on Fri night, so the only crowd we will be fighting are the rv's (which will be no small crowd either). So the closer we can get over there to noon the better. Thats why I was thinking Grants might be good for you folks - you could leave at 8:00 at get to Albqu 10-11 am

Ken,

The CA folks are talking back channel and it sounds like this may be the concensus, last night in Grants KOA and then to Albuquerque before noon. We are also thinking about Williams as our Wednesday night hangout, any AZ folks want to join us in Williams? We will keep all posted on our final plans. Any advice or suggestions still welcome.

Weds night in Williams and Thursday in Grants sounds good to Gail and I from Riverside. We could meet others from So Cal as they pass through Riverside or somewhere along the way; either near Barstow and I-40 or if anyone wants to take the route through 29 Palms and Amboy to I-40 somewhere along Highway 62.

I believe we will be taking I 40 from Barstow. Can you meet up with us there?
