Ummm...I think M&M are coming "up" from Tucson to Picacho to stay the night at the rally...not to Phx...unless I am not reading all this correctly...

sorry for the confusion
Sorry TBR I think we got off topic for a bit, LH was talking about this coming week 19th-26th when we're in Mesa. We were asking to come into Picacho for the night of the 2nd.
Scrap-We do have a date at the airport early a.m. on the 4th so Mark is thinking we need to head up closer to the airport or we'd stay longer at Picacho with you.
We are coming up from Yuma tomorrow and staying at Picacho for two nights starting tomorrow.

anyone know these routes or have any thoughts???
thanks......

That route should be OK in terms of roads...we have towed on that all except the stretched between Safford and Globe on 70...but I'm sure it's OK... The drive from Globe to the 79 junction is a pleasant one, but there may be some construction still active west of Miami...not too bad, though, when we were through there in Oct. The route you have outlined is 262 miles vs 195 via I-10...but more interesting... If you have time you might consider City of Rock north of Deming on 180...a little out of the way, but it's an interesting place... From there you could go back to Deming and go on or swing up through Silver City and back down to Lordsburg... However you go, have a great drive, travel safe and we'll see at Picacho!

Questions, questions, questions...
Since we'll be in AZ on the 26th.
Does Picacho have hook up sites for before the rally?
Can we stay overnight in Quartzsite without paying or signing in?
Since we have to visit relatives in Phoenix and Tucson can anyone recommend a free place to camp near or between or a dog friendly place?

chompin at the bit---as they say
I am sittin here...feelin just like willie nelson..."I can't wait to get on the road again." we are embarking on our semi full time adventure this time....Have had the house for sale for six months but no one is buying houses, regardless of what larry summers, or ben bernake says... but we are leaving anyway....christmas is all that is stopping me from already being on the road...we "must" have christmas with the in laws in spicewood texas...so i am going with safari in tow, sleeping in their driveway...and heading out Dec 26th...going to the marathon motel and rv park...having dinner at the gage hotel in marathon texas for starters on the fulltime adventure then on the way to the picacho rally, i am torn ...by wanting to stay at rockhound state park NM or visit the Escapees Dream Catchers RV park in Derming NM..... anyone have a feel of what the chances are of just showing up at rockhound...whether on dec 28th one would need reservations....
and then leaving the vicinity of deming on the 30th...taking an alternate route to the rally destination... and would love to caravan with others if it suits anyone's plans
any thoughts....can't wait to get this show on the road......

Kingfisher, I am going to pm you my cell number. I am coming from Jacksonville, FL on the 26th. I have a couple stops to make on the 27th and 28th, but after that it will be full speed towards Picacho. I'd love to caravan in.

Milo, there are electrical hookups at Picacho Peak in the regular camping loops. They have electrical only, but there is a dump station and water right in the park. If you are looking for a base camp between Phoenix and Tucson, Picacho Peak would be a good spot. Additionally, there is a large RV resort there, but I do not think you or Mrs. Milo are old enough..... 55 and older only. There are a couple of RV resorts in Casa Grande but I do not know anything about them. Other than those options, I am not aware of anything else available between PHX and TUC

Oh, ok, another night in Q...the sacrifices I must make...join us, and consider doing so as a full time project...well, ya don't have to join us full time, but early retirement is a highly recommended activity...and desert is good...c'mon folks...a little less is actually better...and a lot of it is great!!!...hmm, ya didn't give me the secret sign I must be failing in my duties, whatever they are...see you soon...m
Oh, yeah, WHERE do you want to meet?...freebies are in several places, and we're mobile...

Would that route risk snow in the mountains?

Is there room for a couple from Wisconsin? We're staying down in Amado, South of Tucson, it would be fun to do a rally out here if there's room?
