Wow this is great - I have 12 on my list from as far away as Vermont. Thats cool.
Joe - lucky for me my trailers have been so old that I didn't need to strip. However a lot of folks use a stripper called Klean strip - which can do major damage to you and the enviroment if your not careful and I know others use one called Napier which doesn't work as well, but it won't kill you. Do a search for stripper and your get lots of ideas. I use a dewalt polisher which was the tool of choice when we all first got into this Airstream stuff back in the 90's - now I know lots of folks use a drill such as Jerry is suggesting and a cylo polisher - at some point I'm going to invest in a cylo - if anyone has a cylo, they should bring it. I think its safe to say that most of us use Nuvite polishes - at least for the polish jobs I've seen that I'm most impressed with - course ask 5 folks about polishing and you will get 5 different opinions. And yes you will need lots of rags.
But, lets see what projects we get into and will make of list of supplies that we want to make sure we bring.
Butch - Thats so great you are going to make it - and you are planning to bring your "new" Argosy - can't wait to check it out.
Ways to remove silicon on seams and replace with Vulkem. I've read a lot about it but have not had the courage to begin on my own. I will purchase some and syringes probably from "Vintage" before the rally. Anybody can help! :-) I'll buy plenty of syringes that people who help can take home with them as a bonus to learning how. Sneakyyyyy

I don't have first hand experience on removing silicon. I'm going to get some because I have some on my trailer. What I understand it is very tedious work with popcicle sticks and even peanut butter. In my case it seems to have hardened and just picks off.
I have tons of experience with Vulkem - and those syringes - they work really great. So that is something we can do also. What I find works pretty good is to "push" the syringe rather than "pull" the vulkem.
I live in the Albuquerque area and my family will definitely be there! I also have a great project trailer for folks to demonstrate on -- I would desperately like to have some help and advice with my 59 Pacer, which had a nearly perfect shell but was severely damaged by the &^%$&# who transported it here from Florida. The roof is dented, the doorframe is bent, all three drip caps and the awning rail are damaged, both front corner panels are damaged, and the 2 side access panels are missing (presumably they're somewhere on the highway between here and Florida). He did more damage in 48 hours than was done in the previous 50 years of it's existence. It was delivered this morning, and I have just been in tears.
My husband will have to take the door off the hinges to get inside, because the door frame is badly bent, but I was able to crawl through one of the access holes and I will try to take some more pix of the damage from the inside.
I will bring it to the rally on a trailer, to avoid any more damage. The interior skins have been removed (by the PO) and are inside the trailer, so there is access to the all exterior panels from the inside. I will be very grateful for any help or advice I can get in repairing the damage this bozo did to my beautiful Pacer.
Greetings Corraleno,
Sorry to hear about your transit damage.
I had some sheet metal damage to my Excella when a tire blew out while towing. I learned the local Airstream dealer, Holiday Travel Trailer on Central does sheet metal replacement. They did a reasonably good job for me.
Jerry
Wow Corraleno, if that were me I'd be more than unhappy.
I'd be seeking legal action against whoever towed it, and making sure others knew who it was so they didn't have the same thing happen to them, being careful not to libel anyone and get into another problem.
It would appear that the Resto Rally is not going to be shy of projects to look at. It almost needs to be held at a large commercial building with a load of tools at hand there's so many diverse things to look at. What a ton of fun this is going to be - someone has to take on the task of videoing this and doing interviews for posterity sake. It is such a great undertaking that it will be a hit on the Forums for sure.

Thanks for the tip Jerry, I'll check them out. Do you mind if I ask how much it was? You can PM me if you want. I'm trying to get an idea of how much to go after the shipper for.
