FCU NM Route 66 rally
GET YOUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66!
The Four Corners Unit is teaming up with the New Mexico Route 66 Association for a great time in July.
July 22nd – 25 is the date – be there or be square…
This is a “traveling” rally. We will start in Tucumcari NM KOA on Thursday night, tour the city on Friday – the city of murals and great art-deco architecture and watch all the vintage cars come into town as they prepare to ride across New Mexico on Route 66. Then on Saturday morning we will all take off for Albuquerque and tour the various towns, sites and history that this highway is so famous for. We will stay at Enchanted Trails RV park – on old route 66 trading post – and join the “neon tour” on Saturday night downtown Albuquerque where there will be tons of old cars, food, music and more. The city is planning to close off a several block area for this event. Or if you prefer not to drive downtown, we expect several hundred vintage cars to gather at Enchanted Trails RV park for their “cruise” downtown.
Then on Sunday we will continue this journey to Gallup New Mexico where we will stay at the USA RV park and depart Monday morning after driving down memory lane.
You will receive a nice tour guide (and some other goodies) that will describe interesting places to see and historical information along the route. You can travel together with others, or you can go your own pace during the day. Relax and enjoy the ride!
Several towns will be entertaining us along the route – a pancake breakfast in Tucumcari, BBQ cookoff in Moriarty, a BIG party in Albuquerque. The city is working hard to make this a huge annual event. Of interest to some, Route 66 Beer will be introduced during this rally.
Grants will be hosting another car show and San Fidel has a great art gallery that is opening up for us.....
And… Don’t forget the great photo opportunities!
This is our first rally of this type, so we are planning as we go along – count on some great surprises.
So how do you sign up? Glad you asked…..
Cost is only $35.00 for the rally
You can get the sign up sheet at http://rt66nm.org/events/road_trip_2010/road_trip_2010_registration.html or you can contact us at fourcournersunit@hotmail.com Please send - this is really important – your e-mail address AND be sure to put Airstream on the sign sheet so we can contact you prior to the rally.
You will need to make reservations at any or all of the following – these campgrounds are giving us special rates – be sure to tell them you are with the New Mexico Route 66 Rally.
Thursday Friday – KOA, Tucumcari, NM (575) 461-1841
Saturday – Enchanted Trails RV Park and Trading Post, Albuquerque, NM – (505) 831-6317
Sunday – USA RV Park, Gallup, NM (505) 863-5021
This rally as a great opportunity to turn back the clock to a time when life was simpler and maybe even a bit slower. Take your time, see the sights, take some great pictures – maybe have a burger and malt – or two – or three – even tune into AM radio oldies 1600 in Albuquerque or XM 50’s radio and make believe its 1955!

I'm sorry you can't make it - we have lots of plans for this one - should be a really great time as well as a great educational experience...

Alas, another great 4CU get-together that I will miss. Sounds like a wonderful and educational adventure. Have a great time and post some pictures when you can.

Sorry you won't be able to make it Brad - kind of a FCU rolling party! We have a bunch of old cars signed up - the earliest being 1920 something..

Hey Ken,
Lou and I will be there. We have anxiously waited for this to hit the Forum.
We will have a SOB so is there a penalty for that????
Do we need to have our A/S?
Where do we send the $35.00 or do we pay it when we get to Tucumcari?
Thanks
Bob

Hey Bob
Its probably best to send the $35 to the website above - be sure to put Airstream in the vehicle description so we know who you are vs a car person. Be sure to call the campgrounds and make reservations for whatever night you like - I've heard that some of the folks who answer the phone do not know who we are - if that happens just ask for the owner - they know us.
I am soooo excited to see you joining us!!

I'm one of the stupid ones: Retired and still working. SOME day I want to retire and stop working -- and then start going on these rallies! Dang.

Ha! Pretty much any lodging establishment of the family-run kind means 24/7 duty. That's one part of the whole story that we hadn't properly thought through. (The other part was how difficult it is to deal with snow for months on end.)

Nuts. We're headed for Montana and Glacier NP then. Enjoy the rally.

Sounds like a great rally coming up. Too bad we are on the wrong side of the country. Wish we could make it, but looking forward to the photos...there will be photos posted, won't there.
