This is a good option if you really don't like the next guy, or want more room for chairs so you can party (once the puddle under the other guy's trailer is discovered, he will probably be asked to leave). This is my preferred option, especially if the license plate of the guy next door is from a state associated with substandard sanitation. I won't name those states, but we all know which ones they are.

If you use a puny 12 v. hairdryer, prepare to spend most of the night drying the ground (and bring extra batteries), or use a 120 v. one, but you'll have to run a generator which may cause you to be noticed. When you get thrown out, you can open the black tank too so you leave reminders behind you. This will all make you famous and be talked about at future rallies for years.

There is a solution to every problem.

Gene
Gene that is the best write up on tank issues I have ever seen just breath taking

I'm imagining 116 Airstreams, all with a sewer hose snaking under the next Airstream. They can't throw us all out, can they?

They never talk about what people in a balloon do when have to go. Think about that as they fly over. Do you really want to look up? And the gas balloons, some of which made it to the east coast—they were up 2 1/2 days!

Fortunately, we were not "gifted" at the Fiesta.

Thanks Zep, high praise from a professional photographer. I’m so glad I got to meet Marty, she puts the “dynamic” in “dynamic-duo”. Always a great time when your around, Rodger.

(As my rally neighbor, you realize that the shot with rivets was of my trailer with some Wendy's kids meal stickers of balloons).

We arrived home last night after another great Balloon Fiesta. Thank you all for posting some great photos. We had an outstanding time with wonderful people, terrific food and almost 120 Airstreams. It doesn't get any better than that! See you again next year!

Planning for 2013

I know it’s a little premature to be planning for the 2013 Balloon Fiesta, but I am super excited. Why, you may ask? Well I attended the 1985 Fiesta and have not been able to go back. (could not get off work in Oct.) Now that I am retiring in May, work is no longer an issue. And to pump my up even more, I can attend with the AS group.
OK planning question: Coming from Milwaukee, Wisconsin I see 2 options.
Opt 1. Take time and see the sites along the way and stay at some campgrounds.
Opt 2. Just head right there and stop for 1 or 2 nights alone the way.

If you do Opt 1, What site seeing and/or campgrounds do you recommend?
If you do Opt 2. Where are the good safe stops? (i.e. which Walmart or rest area or truck stop ).

We take the route in red from Omaha and always stop next to the Prarie Dog Kansas State Park. The Park is OK (full hookups), but the free rest stop right around the west end of the lake is just as good (no hookups). You can pull an Airstream as far back as the gate, where there is a large grassy area to turn around if you want to go back to the paved rest stop area. You can walk the perimeter of the lake (red). There is excellent bass fishing the first week the water hits 58 degrees, which is usually the first week of May.

From Colorado Springs we like to go through Taos (park two blocks east of the main traffic light on Kit Carson). So we cut west at Walsenburg and camp at the reservoir south of San Louis. You can park right on the grass at the edge of the water.

Great news! We have 200 spaces reserved for next year - this makes this one of the largest Airstreams rally's in the country ! We will be in touch early next year to start reservations - I suggest everyone let us know as early as possible when we announce as we had a lot of dissappointed folks this year when we filled up.

We promise to make the 2013 Balloon Fiesta Rally the best ever ! We are already in the planning mode...
