Ken, questions about the Friday fixin's. Will the enchiladas be meat and cheese or will there be separate vegie cheese ones as well as meat ones? And, will the chili also have a vegie version and a meat version? And, thanks for working out a meal for everyone.

Yes, thank you for setting up a meal on Friday, we are newbies to the Balloon Fiesta. I've waited 20 years to see the balloons and New Mexico is one our favorite places so its a real win for this Texan. I can't tell you how excited I am to be a part of your group this year.

You are welcome - we are not making any special arrangements for food needs - there will seperate cheese and meat trays, so some I'm sure will want meat only and others will want cheese only - green chilies are ummm a vegetable they are one of the NM major food groups -

Wow Ken, awesome surprise about Friday dinner. Thank you and everyone else involved in making this a wonderful experience.
We left WI at 9am Sunday morning. Doing some of Route 66 along the way and other sightseeing stuff. If day 1 was any indication of our 3 week trip (not one problem), we are in for a great time.

Hi everyone, I'm on my way to Albuquerque. Until I was on the road, I was afraid to even say anything for fear of something falling through as it often does. Plans to attend this rally have been in the works for over three years, and this year it has finally all come together. I'm way way way past Memphis with the Tradewind and there is no turning back now. See you in a few!

It always starts right around my birthday (though that is never in September).

Next year the Fiesta starts on Oct. 4 (a very special day) which means the Airstream rally will start the day before, Oct. 3. In 2015, the Fiesta starts on Oct. 3 and 2016, Oct. 1, and subtract a day for the rally.

Last year a cold front came down into NM just as Friday came along and it got windy at night. Sat. morning things were delayed until early morning and then things did get underway after a bit of a delay.

This year the same thing is happening. The forecast is 32˚ Sat, morning, windy overnight and 10-15 mph by the time they are ready for the balloons to fly. I believe 15 mph winds are the limit for the balloons to fly. A high of 63˚ on Sat., 35˚ and 76˚ on Sunday.

We should just scrape through this year like last because the conditions are just about the same and not at all unusual for this time of year. Hopefully the front will stay further north and move through NM fast. Dress in layers and as the sun comes out, take off a layer at a time. Radio and TV will broadcast weather alerts and keep you informed, but we'll go down to the field early and wait and see what happens—plenty of food and hot chocolate and coffee to keep you occupied (and warm) while you wait.

The cold front is coming in faster and heaviest winds should be around 6 pm Friday afternoon and calm down to 5-10 after midnight. 10 mph is the limit to fly according to Channel 4. Lows of 33˚ Sat. and Sun. and the TV says it is a few degrees "warmer" at the Fiesta grounds. Good news.

Very windy this morning on the field. This morning we get to park 200 Airstreams on the site, should be fun.

Balloon Photo Op's

It looks fantastic you should have some opportunities to get some of your photo's into the October Photo Contest.

Thanks for your patience and superb driving skills as we escorted 200 Airstreams onto the field, incident free. What a great way to begin a fabulous rally!

Hi, you people have a great time. Since there is so much talk about the winds there, I need to tell you a story. When we were at the Balloon Fiesta many years ago, the wind took off my rear vent lid. Luckily One attendee had a telescoping ladder and I had a roll of duct tape. The lid was broken but still on my roof. I put in back in place and duct taped on until I could get home and replace it. The rear vent is directly over my bed so I was in a panic to get it fixed. That night it rained really hard for a few hours. Now I have vent covers on my trailer. If it gets windy, close your vents unless you have vent covers on them.
