Keep the name. It is distinctive (pun intended) and you are guaranteed to be the only one with that name.

Thumbs up Can't Wait!

We are so excited! We are caravanning with others from our area and have planned to go up in a balloon at the time of the mass ascension. This is a once-in-a-lifetime for us and we are so excited!

Linda',

Bring lots of money if you want a balloon ride—I've heard them charging as much as $400. It is a lot less at other balloon events. Some of the larger baskets can hold as many as 12 people. I don't think you get a parachute and you're not up high enough for one to help anyway. Some people think they can get a free ride if they help out the crews, but that rarely, in ever, works.

Lots to see from the ground. A camera with a telephoto lens is a good investment—you can get up close to the balloons with it and you get to take it home. It is still a memorable experience on the earth.

Hey Fellow Fiesta 'Streamers....the time is getting close and a few may already be on the road. Heads up, YOU are in for a very memorable time. Pack the camera, charger and extra disks (or film!) as this is one of the most photographed events in the nation. We promise you cannot get any closer to the fun on the field than where we are camped. You will literally step outside in your pj's with your cup of joe and watch the balloons!

As an added bonus, you will meet Airstreamers from across the nation, make new friends and rekindle friendships.

AS A REMINDER, we highly suggest you have reservations, somewhere, for the departure evening of Tuesday, October 8. The Balloon Fiesta is a 2-weekend-long and the-week-in-between event, therefore, there will RVers coming and going from every direction.

Additional questions? Please post them here and we'll answer them, calm your fears about dry camping, pump you up with anticipation, but mostly we'll be on hand to see the smiling faces of the first-timers and the not-quite-first timers (This is the eighth year in a row for me and I still get giddy!).

During the afternoons, activities quiet a bit on the field. Enjoy the Balloon Museum, head out to Old Albuquerque for lunch. Don't forget your bike, big or small, as you are just yards from a fabulous bike path! Check out the last three pages of this link!

What is the best route in and out of the Fiesta from the VIP area during the Fiesta?

Lets say, to go into town and return to your trailer, after it is already parked in the your spot with all the other trailers?

I attended the Balloon Fiesta once before and I found it confusing to find ways in and out with roads being blocked off rerouted traffic, police, etc.
It was posted earlier about the times of the day to avoid coming and going but, I don't recall seing anything about the best streets to take to get in and out.
The map helps and I'm going to use the map, and would like the know the secret to using an easy in and out set of routes. What would you suggest?
Please name streets that are the best to get to I-25 and also Coors Blvd. while all this stuff is ongoing.

Gene,

You are correct about the cost of the rides. Unfortunately, Fiesta "will not" allow the different balloonist at the festival to sell rides from the field. We are told "ALL RIDES MUST" go through the ride operators they have contracted with, no if's, and's or but's. If as a balloonist you are found to be selling rides, you will be asked to leave.

Because of this, I will be bringing my own!

Enjoy,

Paul, I can understand why they set it up that way—fewer people bothering the balloonists on the field. I hope the balloonists get the money for the ride and the ride arrangers don't take most of it. I guess now that you've exposed yourself, Airstreamers will be asking for free rides from you. I won't be one—I think you are all crazy to go up in those things, but you sure look good up there.

Bluto....we'll go over a lot of 'house keeping' items at Friday night's Meet & Greet. There is a best way out (near the Balloon Museum) and a best way in (the way we will be bringing you to the field from Camping World), but remember, you will have in & out privileges once you have arrived!

Another item to stress is PLEASE DO NOT appear at the Field on your own. The ABQ Fiesta parking crew will not know what to do with you other than to send you off to Camping World. Your registration begins at Camping World on the west side of ABQ.

We look forward to seeing you at CW between 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 4.

Your Fiesta Hosts,
The Four Corners Unit and the Central Coast California Unit of WBCCI

Gene,

I figured, people would figure it out sooner or later (when I show up with a basket on the back of the truck) and it would be a whole lot better for them to understand the reason behind the word "no" here, than try to explain it to everyone as they walk up to you.

Enjoy,

SilverPal,
Thanks,
I knew someone must have figured out the best way in and out. Dropping those bread crumbs out the window didn't help me much last time.

One of the group set about 12 of us up with this company. Private Balloon Flights

We meet at the next exit up N from the Fiesta and they take us to where we take off. Anyone had any experience with them?

Even though I live in Los Alamos, NM, I would attend; however my Airstream does not arrive until January, with hopes of joining you in 2014.

On Oct 4th we will be arriving and setting up, so no planned activities - just hanging around till about 5pm when we do our meet and greet and announcements - so by then we will be a sea of Airstreams !

Weather is looking perfect ! Low 70's zero percent chance of rain and no wind ! Could be best year ever !

The Balloon Fiesta better get here soon. It was 26 degrees at our house this morning. The temperature was confirmed by:
1) Bird baths frozen solid
2) Hummingbird feeder slushy (4:1 solution freezes at 26-27)
3) Frost on the truck windshield
4) The flowers all turned brown
This sucks, and all of my winterization tools burned in the fire which also sucks!

But, not really a surprise, living in Colorado at an elevation of 7,017 feet at the end of September.

According to the local weather people (and the extrapolation between Colorado Springs and Palmer Lake of -10 degrees) this should be the last night of hard freezing temperatures between now and 03OCT2013, when we hit the road.

We did leave the furnace on in the Sovereign, so all plumbing was fine this morning.

Sorry to be such a downer, but the sun is out, the sky is blue and it is already warming up.

Have a great day, and get your campers packed!!!
