To heck with the race, I want to know the details of that AC unit.

45,000 Btu?

Nice work on the image. Appreciate the reflections.

Should be a fun weekend.

That AC unit is required by NASCAR to reduce roll-overs......

Ohhh. Does it flip up when the coach slides backwards? Do the two vents in front of the AC also flip up?

No silly, the AC unit keeps the AS on it's side and off the roof. Then the awning rolls itself out. This pushes the AS back onto it's wheels. Note: NASCAR also requires awnings both sides.

Lowrider AS - I like it!

DanB -- wish you all the success in the world! I especially enjoy the pit crew using the Cyclo polisher to remove weight and avoid rear-end separation. (say what ..... ?)

Cool photoshop job. Yes, the crew reflections are way cool. Beyond the AC size/placement already noted, I see potential for the mothership to take hints from your ...ahem... awning, access door & very short end cap design. ZZzzzzzz...

We return you to the Brickyard thread already in progress...

NASCAR and Airstreams

Last summer at AIRPOCONO Mike Helton President of NASCAR and Robin Pemberton, VP of competition stopped by and toured the trailers. Mr. Helton has two Airstreams. I think he said he has a late model Classic and an older smaller vintage that he has restored or is in the process of restoring.
K&N West NASCAR driver Jacob Gomes stayed with us for the weekend while he was visiting Matt Crafton and his crew.
Really a great time. Hope to make the Brickyard, it is on the bucket list.
Joe

Back in the middle 70's I worked for GM as a Regional Parts Rep. One of the benefits of the job was I got tickets to the "500". Managed to make it a couple of times. Wonderful experience and I have always wanted to go again. This sounds like something to add to my list for next year. Will be standing by for more details.

Hi Dan,

I notice you're quite prominent on the site and seem to really know your stuff.
Would you be interested in inspecting an Airstream in Hubbard, OH for me?
I don't expect you time to be free but I would value your opinion.

Let me know what you think.

Rocky

OK, so heres the short story of a painful process!

My original contact I was working with at Indy was very high up. A little while ago his position changed. My communications went south after that. Now I know why.....

He quit! Now, this was not an ordinary employee. He was Senior Vice President of Operations. He elected to move to a new position managing Circuit of The Americas track in Texas.

So finally, his responsibilities have been handed to another fellow. As expected, this is a task for him.

I'm still doing my best to make this a great event. But, it's taking longer than usual.

Sorry, for the delay.

I guess this one is a bust. I spotted a group of a dozen or so Airstreams in the infield at Talladega this past weekend. Hope they stayed dry with all the rain that came down.
