Airstream Homecoming Attendees

I'm starting this thread as a place for forum members who will be attending the October 2003 Airstream Homecoming in Jackson Center to get together. If we know who from the forum is going and what our numbers/rigs are, we can try to meet in person rather then through a keyboard. With 250 units there on temporary hookups, it will be chaos, I'm sure.

I'll be leaving Austin early afternoon on Saturday, 9/27 to the Airstream park at Hillsboro, TX. From there, it is Dallas, Texarkana, Little Rock, Memphis, etc. Nice thing is, I will be going through two of my list of most disliked cities (Dallas, Little Rock) on a Sunday.

I will be arriving at Jackson Center early afternoonish on 9/30 and leaving VERY EARLY on 10/5. From Jackson Center, I'm going on to near Harrisburg, PA to see my two brothers for the first time in 14 years and meet my new sister-in-law. Total trip about 3340 miles

Look for my 2003 International AS with "Sabre-D" in red script by the door.

I'll add names and info by editing the post immediately following this one as folks check in. That way, the list will stay near the top of the thread.

I'd like to attend, but can't for the whole week. I could do Fri, Sat, Sun. Anyone know if this is possible? Maybe I should just call them.

I suspect that the price will be the same even if you come late since they are capacity limited. They were super nice on the phone when I called. The lady I talked to seemed to be really looking forward to the event.

We'll be there. We are having service work done while we are there. Not many identifying marks, but we might just be the only Impala SS that is towing a 19' Bambi!

Question Chaarge Card

Someone mentioned that Airstream had already put the Homecoming fee on their charge card. I just received my charge card statement and it hasn't popped up yet. However, I signed up just a few days before the billing cut off on my card and it may be on the next statement.

Has anyone else been charged to date?

We have been charged. The charge came on our last CC statement. I called A-S regarding what all is covered ie; meals, elec, honey wagon services, entertainment, tours, etc. "They" could not tell me, as "they" were still working out the details. I questioned how "they" knew to charge $250, but the lady said she didn't know, as all she handled was the names & recorded the payments. She wasn't real sure just who was in charge, but did stay that sometime after the 1st (Aug ) she would be sending out confirmation letters. Do I sound confused?

Best,

No more than the rest of us, I'm sure.

You would have thought that they would perhaps want a deposit to hold the space but not charge the cards for the whole amount until the event actually happens. Oh well, it won't break the bank but it sure seems an odd way to do business.

I'll expect the charge on my next statement, then. They must have just missed getting it on the current statement.

How bout mine?

So,

If your trailer was built in Cerritos it wouldn't be a true homecoming, would it? I guess in spirit, correct?

BTW, why did they close the factory in California? What year? It was the original one? What, if it is still standing, is made their now? Just wondering, I guess InlandAndy would know, he supposedly snatched up everything they had when it closed down. $600 entry door locksets, anyone!!

CA Plant Closure

Quoted from the Landau & Phillippi book simply entitled Airstream: "In 1978, all manufacturing and executive capabilities were centralized in the Jackson Center headquarters. At the same time, production began on Airstream motorhomes..." I'm not sure why the A/S exec's decided to call it quits on the CA plant, unless all of them lived in Ohio. I sure would like to know. Anyone know the reason(s)?
