Arcadia National Park

Dick & Claire Wiklund (#2725) are in! We have a reservation for a 35 foot pull thru spot but have been told that sites will be assigned on arrival. The Honda 2000 EI has been delivered from Mayberry's, is set up, and ready to go.

We are planning to prepare for Arcadia by doing a dry run at the end of March, through April, and into May by heading south to Florida, across Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, maybe across Texas to New Mexico, and then back home by way of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and back to New England. It should get us prepared for a week in Maine! Any suggestions for camping sites or interesting places to see in the South would be appreciated.

We were in Bar Harbour 3 years ago. It is a wonderful place to spend a week.

Just park your tow vehicle and ride the bus everywhere. The free shuttle will take you into Bar Harbour. The buses have racks for your bike so you can bring it with you! The shuttle has many stops in town. There are great museums as well.

Here's a nice little online 2009 guidebook for Bar Harbor:
Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park - 2009 Visitors' Guide

I was happy to see in the 2009 guidebook (page 41) that there is a Bar Harbor Music Festival event planned for July 22nd in the Amphitheatre of the campground we are staying at. Leon and I will make a night of it by arriving early to enjoy a picnic dinner and then relax and lisen to the music. Here's the info:

July 22 - Bar Harbor Music Festival
8:00pm. Blackwoods Campground Amphitheatre, Acadia National Park, Otter Creek

37th Annual Acadia National Park Outdoor Concert (Rain date July 23 at 8:00pm). Bar Harbor Festival String Orchestra, Francis Fortier, Conductor. Admission Free (voluntary contribution). Parking is limited, shuttle bus available from Jackson Lake Parking Area, Route 3, Bar Harbor.

The Jordan Pond House

We've heard that the Jordan Pond House, located just outside the campground, is a great place for lunch or dinner at a reasonable price. Their website is Jordan Pond House Restaurant. Dick & Claire

It is! The Jordan Pond House offers an afternoon tea that includes the best popovers you'll ever taste. They serve the popovers with butter and jam - yum yum. If it's a nice day you can sit outside and view the "bubbles" while enjoying your lunch / tea / dinner. We'll be going there....

Okay folks........the sites are going fast. ONLY 13 sites left.

There are 13 sites still available that are 20' reverse in sites. The 20' designates the length of the asphalt area to park your car, the trailer gets parked on the grassy area. The park will assign the site number upon arrival.

As HOST of the rendezvous we need the following:
  • # of days you book
  • confirmation #, as I'm writing to the Park Ranger on May 1st to see if they can park us all together
We will keep all attendees updated via email as the date gets closer.

Thanks,
Gail & T

Clarification on the 20' sites. These are for RVs or trailers 20' or less. Sorry........... This campground is FULL for the 18-25th.

I am looking into more campgrounds near Blackwoods for those who want to join the rally.

Hi All...........

We have 17 rigs registered. Can't wait for the FUN to begin!

I will be contacting the Park Ranger on May 1st, and will need everyone's CONFIRMATION #'s, so they can locate our sites together.

Thanks,
Gail & T
