5th Annual Restoration Rally !

Please join us for the one and only, the original, Fifth Annual Airstream Restoration Rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico – a joint rally of the Vintage Airstream Club and the Four Corners Unit.

This is a serious seminar-style rally taught by professionals for anyone interested in hands on learning of all the ins and outs of restoring a vintage trailer, or just seeing how these trailers are put together.

This rally is part classroom and part hands on and does not require you to bring your trailer. Topics include overview of trailer restoration, rivet and skin skills, cabinetry, electrical, axles, plumbing, window door rebuilding, interior design, curtain and upholstery skills – and other surprises that are still in the planning stage! In other words this is THE ONLY rally where you will learn skills needed to fully restore an Airstream trailer.

As in the past, this rally will once again feature Area 63 Productions and Uwe Salwender (UWE on the forums). Many of you know of the incredible Airstream restorations that he turns out from his studio. Also featured is Kip Eagan (Aerowood) – a master aircraft skin mechanic who has incredible knowledge of all things aluminum. Jim Polk, a certified appraiser – one of the very few in the U.S. – will be on hand to provide information on values of restored Airstreams.

Check out our past years rallies at http://www.airforums.com/forums/f289...lly-61010.html, http://www.airforums.com/forums/f289/2009-fcu-vintage-restoration-rally-47536.htmlhttp://www.airforums.com/forums/f289/fcu-vintage-restoration-rally-39159-2.html
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f289/4th-annual-vintage-restoration-rally-73858.html We know you will find this is a must attend event – the only rally whose focus is Airstream restoration taught by professionals where you will see and learn far more than humanly possible to absorb.

We will have trailers at the rally that we will be working on and tons and tons of tools around that we will be glad to put into your hands so that you can experience and practice skills learned.

So you want details? We will hold this rally the second weekend in June (7-11) at Enchanted Trails RV Park and Trading Post (an old Route 66 trading post) http://www.enchantedtrails.com/ in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Our rally fee is $50 per person or $85 for a couple plus as screaming deal of $16 per night to Enchanted Trails (Thank you, Vicki!!) for the campsite. Please make your camping reservations directly with her.

Attached you will find the sign up sheet.

So what do you get for your rally fee? You get a great learning experience plus a catered meal on Saturday night (so you don’t have to worry about cooking after working hard all day) a continental breakfast (so you won’t have to worry about cooking after staying up late on Saturday night) Sunday morning.

So don’t hesitate, we look forward to seeing you in Albuquerque!

I have missed the past couple of Restoration Rallies due to limited number of vacation days, but my new job has unlimited vacation days and we will be attending.

In 2009 I spent a lot of time on the roof of my trailer.

Made the plane reservations and we are staying on the property in the Silverstreak! Wanted to stay in the Airstream but the twin bed wasn't going to cut it for the two of us! We are actually coming in a few days before so if there are any places that are " must sees" nearby I'd love to here about them. We are already planning on seeing Chaco NHP and Carlsbad Cavern. What else?

Another place to visit would be the Balloon Museum.

Ken,
I'll be there, my registration has been in the mail for a few days now. I may not bring the trailer this year as it's probably going to be in pieces. That’s way I’m planning to return, so I can get advice on putting it back together.

Ready to learn!

We're really looking forward to soaking up tips and techniques for redoing our 59Tradewind. We'll be traveling in our 94 since the 59 is already in pieces, campsite's reserved at Enchanted Trails and registrations in the mail!

See you soon,
Ed & Eileen

Is there any chance of a rally like this ever getting started in the eastern US or in the midwest? Would LOVE to attend and learn, but with 2 small kids, summer school, limited vacation, etc., NM is a little too far out for me. Would love to set my sights on attending this one in the next few years, though!!!

Freebies

I finally got the over_counter cabinet out of the Sovereign. If someone (that would be a deserving someone) needs the whole thing, I will bring it, otherwise I'll bring the tambours (they are in good shape) and the control panel.

I'm thinking about keeping the fan for my Safari, but that might also be available.

"Check's in the mail".

I think people that have attended all five resto-rally's should get free cookies, what do think Ken?

1st year - motorcycle & tent
2nd year - back of my truck
3rd year - aluminum tent
4th year - aluminum tent w/bathroom and AC
5th year - the Caravel should be done by June, YEA! (except for polishing, maybe)

Always a great time, a lot of Fun, Facts, and Friends.

See y'all in June

Sheridan

Streaming the restoration exhibitions

Ken J.
I don't know enough to do this, but I do have some thoughts about it.

1. Don't attempt to stream live. The campground WiFi is inadequate and there would be too much down time while people assemble for a exhibition, tools are found, etc.
2. Record the various exhibitions using a good quality digital video camcorder. (I don't have one)
3. Stream each exhibition from a home or business with a good high speed Internet connection. It is the upload speed that is important. Use a high speed link like firewire to connect the DV camcorder to a computer with a fast processor. Use a software streaming server like VLC Media Player (I have no idea how to configure this free software)
4. Advertise on Airforums or elsewhere what day and time each exhibition will be streamed and the http address to receive it.

These comments may be enough to attract someone with real knowledge to step in.
