Dan, meet us at the kayak rally 27 Sep or at Muley 2 Oct. You're a retired guy--Marty will make the call to get you a kitchen pass.

I know you're going to kill me for this, but I have to show off your work....

For those who don't know, SHERIDAN showed up 4 years ago on a motorcyle with a tent. Last year his Caravel was looking great, all the systems were installed per NASA specifications and blew us all away.

This year he's almost finished, just a little bit of polishing to go. The beauty of his work is more than skin deep, with auto-closing drawers and other refined touches.

These photos are just a teaser! Sheridan has graciously accepted our request (right!?) to kick off the 6th Annual VRR with a slide presentation on his work! Already counting the days....

I didn't take many photos this year, but this one shot of getting ready for the rafle captures a lot of the participants. Lynda Polk is getting us to settle down...you can see Levon in the back is resisting (and he doesn't have his face covered, as he does in every other photo-HA!)

14 hours on the road yesterday and made it home alive! Maybe if I have my flying cloud ready next year I can take it a little easier. I really feel compelled to add my thanks to those already expressed. As a rank newbie this year I was almost overwhelmed with the amount of knowledge and expertise collected in this event. Uwe, kip, Roger, Lew, Jim, Ken and everybody else- THANK YOU. My daughter (cleco) and I were made to feel totally welcome and included even though we didnt previously know any of you.
The only complaint I have is that the weekend was too short! Ken, you really need to consider making this a week long event.

I got home last night! After sitting two and a half hours on the runway in Chicago, supposedly some paperwork problem

I so enjoyed myself this weekend, it was the best! I met so many great people and for my first rally it far exceeded my expectations!

I was blown away by Sheridan's trailer. Beautiful

And I learned soooooo much... I also intended to blog about our travels around NM before the rally, but the internet speed just wasn't up to it! I'll try to get the blog updated ASAP.

By the way, an unfinished trailer is no reason not to come next year! Both Uwe and Kip had unfinished trailers (both incredibly inspiring tho!).

I know there wasn't an official list of people who attended but if you'd like to be a part of one, I'd be happy to compile it and send it out privately. There were a few of us talking at the end that wanted to exchange messages and stay in touch! Just pm me with your name, email, maybe your trailer model? I promise it'll stay private!

Many many thanks to the organizers and presenters.

PS. The "Kip" roller made it thru Airport security!

Great work Sheridan

Dan (Sheridan)

After corresponding with you over the last few years, I'm thrilled to see the pics of your work. Outstanding.

Hope you really enjoy the fruits of your labor!

John

Robin, she is so proud of her new nickname! Carissa is already planning the 8 hour drive to put what we learned to the test
We will surely be there next year and look forward to seeing you all again.
If anybody is travelling I-15 through central Utah and wants a place to stop awhile I am always available.

I want to thank everyone who attended - as you can see from the posts, we are very serious about teaching restoration skills - any fun that went on was not on the schedule- - - - - LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! And even I learn things - I had no idea Sheridans name was Dan - he looks more like a Sheridan than a Dan - Sheridans Airstream is really nice - and so is Dan's - Sheridan and Dan are planning a GREAT presentation next year on their restoration project - something to really look forward to.

So who really rebuilt that Airstream .... hmmmmmmmmm

Safely Home? NOT!

Well, I'm really glad others made it home in one piece after a truly stellar resto rally: unfortunately we did not. We were rear-ended while stopped at a stop sign at an off-ramp from I-86. It was a deserted stretch of interstate, at the exit only one gas station, and no traffic, but a driver managed not to see the rear-end of our '86 34' Ltd filling his windshield and smacked into our rear bumper. Bumper came off, storage door came off and in coming off pushed up into the rear body panel, side pieces that met bumper are all bent, and worst of all, the side body panels above the left wheel well are bulged out. Our well-loved Ltd is now resting at the brand-new A/S dealer in Boise/Nampa. And now we will miss the Intern'l in Sedalia, too. Dang dang.

I can't imagine what we could have done to prevent that one short of staying home, the bumper even had a red and white reflective strip, and it was 3:00 in the afternoon! How does one NOT see something the size of an A/S trailer looming up in front in broad daylight??

Oh well: the price of taking our babies out on the road, I guess.

But the rally was worth it! We learned a whole lot, enjoyed the people a whole bunch, and we really appreciate Ken and Co for all the work that a successful rally requires. And thanks to everyone who was patient when young Cerberus jumped on them! (We're working on that behavioral problem.)

We'll see you all again next year, thanks to everyone who organized and/or participated!

Vivian

Glad your home OK. So sorry about the accident. The new owners of my 21' Sovereign were rear ended on their first trip...a trip to the Rally in Wyoming two years ago. The hit took the rear bumper, really, all I could see. The insurance company totaled the trailer at a miserably low value. The owners bought it back and still use it. Hence my question at the Resto Rally on getting some insurance company input next year. Now I really am motivated to get my Airstreams appraised by Jim ASAP.

Thanks for telling me about the new owners, I don't feel so bad I guess since it has happened to others, but I am so afraid they will total it. The dealer said Jackson Center will have to make a new bumper, nothing from ' 86 in stock of course, and then I'm worried about what is causing the bulge above the wheel well: scary.

What may be the worst of all is that we had decided to have Jim appraise the Ltd at the rally, and then changed our mind because it needs new curtains and I am just embarking on a complete redecoration, so we thought we'd wait until it was refurbed and then have it appraised. Alas, the accident didn't wait for the refurb! Well, "the best-laid plans of mice and men gang aft astray," and I guess we just got caught in the astray part.
