We thought of going to Havasupai a little latter. Anyone know how the dam problems have affected the area? Also as far as I know the only ways into Supai itself is foot, horse or heli. I assume I won't be able to take my dogs in. Is there a kennel nearby?

Still not sure if we will make the rally, but will puit up a post when we know.

Thanks,
Marshall

I've been to Supai a few times. The hike in isn't bad but the last two miles coming out can be a challenge for the faint of condition. I'm sure the campground is booked as it usually fills up by February for the remainder of the year. I've heard the pristine beauty of the features are still intact by that would need to be verified as it may be a sales tactic for those with reservations to still come. You won't be able to take your dogs but there may be a kennel in Peach Springs which is the closest place with some type of civilization.

Hope you can make the rally in Williams. Be good to finally meet you.

Havasupai status

Went to the tribe's website and also checked the news. Supai is not flooded but 400 people were evacuated. The tribe has closed the area to the public for 30 days.

That's too bad because it is beautiful down there but maybe they have some clean up to do before opening it back up to the touristy folks. With this development, maybe you can join us in Williams.

Food alert...

For breakfast we will bring French toast and fresh fruit. For the potluck, we will bring coleslaw and hummus with scooping veggies.

Best route from Valley of the Sun??

I was in Prescott yesterday for a Photo Walk. When I asked about the conditions up I-17 and I-40 to Williams, I was told that there is considerable construction up near Flagstaff.

I've wanted an excuse to avoid some of the ups and downs of I-17, so perhaps the alternative that was suggested is better. I was told that a better route would be I-17 to Route 69 toward Prescott, thence Fain Road just north of Dewey, thence Route 89 westerly past the airport where it turns northerly all the way to I-40, and lastly eastbound on I-40 to Williams.

What do you all think? Is this a preferable way to go? Thanks in advance.

I've never traveled that route before so I can't comment. How bad do you suppose the construction would be over the Labor Day weekend? I would hope DOT would not be restricting traffic when there would more than usual.

OK, we've started a list of what we're brining for the happy hours and shared meals.

Friday Happy Hour = deviled eggs
Saturday Coffee Time = fruit and cinnamon rolls

Saturday Happy Hour = trail mix

Sunday Happy Hour = mixed nuts and cheese / crackers
Sunday Potluck = crockpot meatballs and homemade ice cream

Monday Breakfast Potluck = biscuits and sausage links

We will be serving coffee every morning at 7:00am with cream and sugar available. If you have a special ingredient, please bring it along. Richard and Jan will be making dutch oven burritos to be served with coffee for Sunday morning. Monday we'll be serving coffee and the potluck will be at 8:00am. We'll share breakfast and still leave time for folks to clean up and pack up for the 11:00am check-out time.

I hope everyone realizes, this is voluntary and is not set in stone. If you want to do something else, by all means, feel free to do so.

I just wanted everyone to know what we're bringing so food items wouldn't be duplicated. If they are, great. We'll compare recipes.

Yes, this is the 4CU!!
