2010 Cherry Blossom Rally
Okay, so it's about a month away! Are people getting ready for it? We've had a lot of snow this season, and I for one am glad to be going camping again (although we'll actually be going camping this month - so CBR won't be our first trip this year, as it has been the past few years). I know I'm getting excited, and I'm looking forward to seeing the WDCU folks again since we only made it to one rally last year. (I'm hoping to do better this year...)
This is the last time at Rogers' farm, right? We have to make it a good one.

RJ, will we see you again hopefully? I wonder what Kim has planned this year! I had fun learning how to "square dance" with Harley last year!

We should be there - it's only 5 miles from our house so even if the camper couldn't make it for some reason, we sure could! I don't know yet about other rallies this year - we're planning on the Outer Banks rally, and we have a honeymoon trip scheduled (no camper on that one), but that's it, because we're so busy with the wedding right now. 99 days and counting!

In taking with Kim we have come up with a 70's themed party for Sat night. Wear your grooviest 70's clothes and be ready to boogie on down.
We have an iPod loaded with classic tunes from the 70's that will be filling the big top tent. Mirror ball is ready to spin and the kids will be painting the day-glo wall decorations. I am bringing two black lights. If anyone has one left over from their youth - please bring them along to help set the 70's mood.
Only Jane and I have RSVP's here so far. I know HowieE is coming. Not sure who else from the forums will be in attendance.

Just got a note from Kim that they've cancelled the CBR - the field is apparently a sloshy mess. Those who have been there probably have the same thought as me: it would probably turn into a mud bowl.
Word on the street is that some people are booking at Cherry Hill Park... I may be in on that, too.

This really causes some problems for us. We had planned to do a long weekend, then Jason was going to work for a day in Virginia (nice way to make it a camping business trip), and then finish it off with CBR.
Hmm... I guess we'll have to decide whether to cancel the entire trip or to go to Cherry Hill instead.

Too bad about Roger's Farm. We really look forward to this event all winter long. In the spirit of Antsy singing 'nothings going to stop us now...'
Jane and I have booked 4/8-4/11 at Cherry Hill Park -- see http://www.cherryhillpark.com
The Park people said they should be able to group us Airstreamers together. This will be helpful as it would be fun to put together a pot luck for Friday night. Sat night dinner plans are still up in the air - suggestions are welcome.

Jason and Andrea...I hope you make it. Nan and I were looking forward to meeting you. But, perhaps, we will see you at the NOVA rally in JC next week.

I don't mean to stereotype or segregate, but in light of the informal "move" of CBR to the campground; who's still coming that's got young kids? Not that I limit myself to only rallies where kids are present but honestly if my kids need constant attention from mom & dad then then it makes the rally a lot less enjoyable for mom & dad. It would help to know that there will be other people and kids there that have to deal with nap time, play time, dinner time, bed time, etc. One of the things we've noted from the pictures and accounts of past CBRs is that there's plenty of room for the kids to run and play. Plenty of events for the kids and plenty of other kids! Not that I expect event planning on the scale of CBR at the farm; it would just be reassuring to know that we're not the only ones that have to get up from the fire / gathering every 2 minutes to chase the kids.

I sent a suggestion to Kim that maybe folks who wanted to arrive early in the week could think about Greenbelt National Park campground ($16.00 per night). It's a nice little campground with a dump station and water is available from spigots around the campground but no electric. I'll probably spend a night or two ahead of arriving at Cherry Hill which is right down the road. It's first come first serve for the 174 sites prior to memorial day and there are usually a large number of sites available this time of year. Showers and comfort stations are available.

atobols, I don't have kids (just a cat...he stays in the camper, though), but WDCU has plenty of rallies at campgrounds and I've never seen a problem with the kids. The Rogers' farm is nice because the kids are basically free to roam, but it's not the only way to camp. And Cherry Hill Park has swings and all for kids to play on (or at least it did when I was there in 2006).

throwing our hat in the ring
Andrea is going to make reservations tomorrow at Cherry Hill. Get ready for a 2 year old and a nearly 4 year old boy running around. We'll see whomever is going to be at Cherry Hill Thurs-Sat nights there.

I'm heading over to Cherry Hill at lunchtime today (March 18) to make my reservations for at least thursday thru saturday. I'm going to see in which area on the campground map they are locating us. I'm also going to see if we will have one of their group areas available near our sites for a gathering place. I know a couple of people who are bringing their pavilion tents. For all the years folks wished they could have had the pleasure of full hookups at the CBR this will be the year to enjoy them.
Can anyone else think of anything I should ask the management when I go by there today?

Great Campground!
You guys are going to love it there!
I spoke to "Janice" at the campground yesterday regarding our gathering in June, ( Washington,DC "Our Nations Capital Rally), and she asked me if our AS group was part of the same group of AS folks that are coming to the Cherry Blossom in April. And.........of course I tried to explain to her about the AS club.
This is a great campground, we've been there twice in the last 6 years, and now are the HOSTS for the Rally in June. The bathrooms are spotless, the 2 pools are great if the weather permits, and a bonus for the group is Wednesday & Friday evening dancing in the CLUBHOUSE with minimal door charge. Check out the above rally subscription for more detail. The best feature is the Shuttle Bus coming to the campground and dropping you off at the train station.
You all have fun!

Braith and I plus my daughter and her trailer just registered for 3 nights.
An interesting comment from the lady taking the reservation. They do not assign sites until you arrive so the only way to be contiguous is to show up early. That will not be a problem for those coming in Thursday by may be a problem for anyone considering coming in on Friday and competing with the weekend crowd..
