We are total newbies and we are coming!

We've only been two places not far from home with our new Airstream, but we are coming to this! With all the lovely pictures and the incredibly excited and warm tone of the previous attendees, we just couldn't miss it! As I move away a bit from my job and my retired husband breathes a sigh of relief at that, we relish the opportunity to meet all of you good folks. And even more special, my brother and sister-in-law are probably going to rent an Airstream in Phoenix and join us. I'm so thrilled! When you see the Airstream with the big "O" for Oregon on the back window, I hope you'll say hello, stop in for a glass of wine or a cup of coffee, and give us lots of advice. YIPPEE! We are actually doing it! The next phase of our life is really starting.

I thought I would mention this again - the fiesta price includes admission to all events + you are already parked - so if you had to pay that it would be about $200 if you go to morning and evening events and $80 for parking each day - so the camping is pretty cheap.

The downside to all of this, is they require us to give them a deposit by mid February - yes you read that right - but since they like us so much, (because we are SUCH nice folks!) they let us slide till April 1st - and maybe longer - but we can't promise a spot after 4/1 - it just depends how full they get and the pressure on us to release spots - current we have reserved 70 spots - so there are plenty for anyone wanting to attend.

We reserve these spots a year in advance -

Lynn and I are really looking forward to the Balloon Fiesta. We understand that the balloon activity is in the mornings and some evenings, leaving afternoons free. If that is so, and if there is a suitable place, we will be doing some flying of our own.

For those of you who don't know us, here is our brand of flying.

Enjoy

If there is enough breeze to fly your kites, that would be too much to fly the balloons! You should contact the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta organizers and get billed as an alternative act.

That seems like it might be a fun thing to do, however, being the only fliers there, it could be a very short show. Non kite fliers might get bored.
A few years ago the organizers were approached by the then, President of the American Kitefliers Association (AKA) about combining the Fiesta with a large kite festival. I thought it would be really great, but nothing came of it. As you say, if there is too much wind for the balloons, it would be good for most kites. Also, the big kite festivals, like the balloons, are very colorful. It would be a natural to combine the two.

In any event, Lynn and I will fly for our enjoyment, and the enjoyment of those who watch.

This weekend is the Huntington Beach Kite Party, at the pier in Huntington Beach, CA. Some of the best fliers in the world started arriving yesterday and will be there through Sunday. We started flying yesterday and will continue through Sunday, with fliers from all over the US and Canada. Over 70 fliers will be there.

If you are in the area, check it out. Kite festivals are always free, except for parking.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, but I thought that folks who enjoy balloons, might enjoy watching what we do with our kite friends.

We have a kite, too!!!

It's in the Airstream right now. Now that I think of it, there are two kites. One we got from the San Diego Air Museum and has yet to be put together. It's a kite that looks like a biplane.
The other kite is something like your kite but not as high tech (read: expensive).
Neither has been flown. Just haven't done it yet. Maybe in October?

My other "kite" is a 25ft Catalina sailboat which sails quite nicely
Bringing telescopes just in case night viewing is good there.

Hi, I was there two years ago and had a really great time. One evening the wind was strong enough to blow one of my vent covers off of my trailer. [well not off, but broken] I had to duct tape it back on and that night it rained really hard. There can be wind there, and rain, but it was the greatest time ever. We have a wedding to attend in Arizona on October 10th; Trying to convince my wife to make the Balloon Fiesta and wedding one, two week, trip.

And we look forward to meeting you and your cockers. We were thinking of bringing our labs but wondered what that would be like during the day. Actually, our oldest is 14 and going pretty darn slow, we might be down to one by October. Do you think it would work well to bring them?

Our brother and wife are renting an Airstream and will be joining us, we are meeting up in Zion for a few days first.

Do we, as a group, meet up somewhere before going to the actual fiesta grounds?

Yes - we meet outside the fiesta grounds - at a place to be determined once we see how many of us there are - we all come into the fiesta park at one time - its pretty cool.

Again its really important that I have everyone's e-mail so I can let you know the details of this highly co-ordinated and organized event.

The only issue with animals that I know of is the fireworks (can you say boom) at night.

A day late and a dollar short

I just noticed this event. Is there still openings? I was quickly trying to read through all the posts and saw a deadline of 15 Mar....
Thanks!

Yes we still have room - I just need to have deposit to the fiesta folks by 4/1 - I'm going to get with them next week and see if I can extend that - they working well with us - it just depends on their reservation volume - they can't commit past 4/1 at this point though...

Hi Ken,
This is my first Balloon Fiesta Rally. Will you be sending each of us a confirmation email that you got our checks?

I will be sending out our first e-mail update just before I send the deposit off to the fiesta folks - that way if I'm missing anyone, I will know then. You can look for that right after the 1st of April

Wow, that kind of gives me goose bumps! Should be quite a dramatic sight, all those silver streaks at once. Maybe we will reconsider the dog issue. They aren't afraid of fireworks. We're going to spend four days at Zion and surrounds on the way down from Oregon, should be lovely in the fall. We so look forward to meeting new friends in New Mexico.
So Ken, how did you get so many rivets??
