Y'all come to the 2009 Region 7 VAC Rally!

It will be held the same place as last year, the L O Simenstad Municipal Airport, Osceola, Wisconsin, timed to coincide with Osceola's 3-day Community Fair and Wheels and Wings Day, a grand gathering of exotic cars, aircraft--and now Airstreams!--at the airport.

We had a blast last year. We were parked on a large grass area right on the airport, where we had a ring-side seat for the aircraft. (pictured below) No electricity, but daisy-chained water and porta-potties were provided. Enough people had generators to share that we could keep our batteries charged.

You probably won't need air conditioning in northern Wisconsin in September--do come with some LP in your tanks since you may need heat! Last year Osceola provided a fire ring and a prodigious quantity of firewood, which they cordially invited us to use up so they wouldn't have to haul it away!

Everyone in Osceola was nice as could be, and we had a big turnout for the Vintage Open House.

By the way, your hosts, Curt and Julie Gunderson, are in the hospitality business (Home in the Pines Bed & Breakfast http://www.frontiernet.net/~jag50/ ), so they know how to line up first class catering!

This is a buddy rally, so you don't need to be a member of WBCCI--or even own an Airstream--to attend.

If you have a vintage Airstream in the upper midwest--this is the place you need to be that weekend! Invitation and registration form are attached in .pdf form.

We're very much looking forward to it! This will be our very first "rally" gathering with one of our Airstreams, so we can't wait. We're also anxious to meet a few others in the area, and should even have our WBCCI number on the trailer by then!

Did I mention we can't wait?! ;-)

It puts me in mind of our first rally, six years ago now. We showed up with a rather decrepit trailer which was "roadworthy and habitable" aside from maybe the fact that the plumbing didn't work. We were greeted like long-lost friends and have been coming back ever since--two trailers, innumerable rallies, and God only knows how many miles later.

We were fortunate enough to hang out a bit at the Int'l rally in Madison the other week (we both work in Madison). We also experienced that wonderfully friendly atmosphere which has prompted us to send in our WBCCI membership now this week! We've been talking a lot about Wyoming next year, and certainly looking forward to Osceola after talking to several other members from WI. What a GREAT group of people :-)

We're anxious to meet all of you... the countdown has begun!

We had about 20 trailers there last year (you can count them in the aerial photo), but the rally didn't get much advance publicity. We're trying to do a better job of publicizing this year.

In recent years we've gotten 30 or 40 trailers at Region 7 VAC rallies.

Just a quick note to say THANKS TO ALL who attended this rally for showing us a great time at our first ever! We had a lot of fun, and it was wonderful to finally meet some of you face to face. We hope everyone had a safe drive home (or to your next destination). Back to reality for us tomorrow.

Just a note to thank everyone who helped make the 2007 Region 7 "Wheels and Wings" Vintage Airstream Club rally a rousing success.

I have posted a few pictures to show the flavor of the rally.

First, happy hour--an essential feature of every rally!

Second picture, taken during the Wheels and Wings fly-in, shows a polished B-25 landing over a few of the Airstreams. (We were parked only about a hundred yards from the active runway. The folks in orange shirts on the scaffold in the background are air traffic controllers in the temporary tower.)

The third picture shows vintage Airstreams in the Osceola Community Days parade.

All in all, a great rally!
